I don't understand why everyone is getting upset at their retailers for not handing these things out. They cost them money and they're running a business. It's not like DC was just handing these things out for free.

It's not like DC was just handing these things out for free. They're promotional items. The shops should be giving them away with each issue of the relevant comic for FREE! The comic shop makes its money by selling more of that title than it would normally. Which is, by all accounts exactly what's happening with Doom Patrol. Many shops are selling out of this issue. http://www.bleedingcool.com/2009/11/05/doom-patrol-4-the-monster-smash/This link has some info on that. Yes, comic shops can essentially do whatever they please with the rings, but its not a very good gesture of goodwill on their part. My comics this week also came in a DC Blackest Night Bag. No charge. I got 3 yellow rings and again no charge. That's how customers should be treated.

from what I've heard from a couple of LCS's is that they cost I think it's 8 dollars and change for a bag of 50 so if your getting changed much of anything their just getting your money I know my LCS gives them away especially if your buying the book their supposed to be coming out with. You Gotta Go Here Anything said by me in forums are my opinion only and not that of anyone else or CCL Well I've said to much again probly stuck my foot in my mouth again but I said it and hey I've got to where I like all of you guys/girls even though some of you are even stranger than me.

Red and green in the last week! My LCS gives them away to whoever wants one. I bought Doom Patrol, but my friends didn't and they got one anyway.

The rings come for free to the LCS if they meet the ordering quota. The LCS I normally go to did not get them. I'm in the process of switching, though and my new one did. Most places don't sell 10 copies of Booster Gold and Doom patrol (for example), probably, so ordering 50 would have been excessive.

The BN bags came out this week for all stores (they also cost more than normal bags, fyi) and they were late as they were supposed to be released with BN #1. I disagree with you that this is "how customers are supposed to be treated" and that if a store isn't just giving their rings away they're evil business owners. It's a business, and these shops need to stay in business and these rings can help boost sales. So what's the problem?

And the stores that did order them anyway need to cover their costs. DC could have made this easier on everyone by allowing stores to just order boxes of the rings. But they didn't. Why? Because they're a business too!!

Any shop that doesn't give them away, is taking away from the point of these rings. The shops make their money back by charging for the books that they ordered. If they ordered too much, then that's their fault for bad business practices, not the customers fault. -Nate-

I understand the business aspect of it. Like I said in my original post, the comic book shops can pretty much do whatever they please with the rings. I just don't think it makes good business sense in the long run to charge for something that many shops are giving away free. If a store is charging $2 for something that cost around 7c then good luck to them. Personally, given the amount of money that I sink into my LCS on a weekly basis, if my LCS wanted to charge me for a ring I'd tell them where to go and not to be so cheeky! However, the shop I go to wouldn't do that. Why? Because they want me to come back - that's good business sense. Like BurningDoom said and I totally agree, why should we take the hit if a shop has bad business practices?

Mark up is a B@#ch and i've seen the rings go for up to 3 bucks a pop and i'm sorry but thats just WRONG! How bad is money management in a store if they're charging that much for the rings?? Are some stores just trying to cover costs? Sure. Are some other stores just out to make a little more off the customer? Damn skippy! I used to work in radio and when we got a boatload of promo music to hand out at events or to set up in stores it was FREE. It's a cost thats covered by the lable and not passed down to the customer and they are a business as well. comicattack.netThe Black Hand

Why aren't comic shops just giving them away? Because their customers will just turn around and do this: Set 1 Set 2 Set 3 Set 4 Set 5 Set 6
Like I said, a store is a business and when a set of these things sells for at least $15 and more than $20, it makes no business sense to just hand them out.

These could also be from dealers as well who don't want to be stuck with an ass load of inventory. I do see your point and everyone has to make money I just don't agree with people getting ripped off for "promo" items. they are definitely NOT worth 3 bucks man...it cost more to ship these things from China than it did to make each one comicattack.netThe Black Hand
