To bad you can't put up some big scans of the covers after all is done to show thnigs that dealt with the grading as far as the covers are concerned. I always love to see what other people think to be wrong with a comic. Who knows I might can talk you all into doing it.

I like the idea of a large group. 7 people would make for an interesting round table.

I got news from bovard that I get to be the lucky submitter. LadyJay, I'm not sure if Bovard told you what books they were but if he didn't, wait. I've got three books that I think will add some "flavor" to the grading process. Nothing obscene, but I hope that the difference in the books will add to dynamic of non-partial grading. I think it would be fun to be suprised with the books instead of knowing whats coming.

Nope, Bovard hasn't said a thing. He knows that the surprise when they arrive is definitely part of the fun.

The only problem with a large group is the time it takes for the books to make it all the way around. It's not always possible to get to the books the day they arrive. Sometimes it takes a few days to get them graded and sent on (one of the reasons Bovard's limiting this to 3 books; the more books, the longer it takes).

I'd say wait another day or so to see if anyone else is interested, so that we can make the groups smaller. Four per group would be okay. If no one else signs up by the end of the week, we should probably get started, so that antikryst can participate while he's still in the US.

Ok, sounds good. So, if we don't get a couple more people by, say... Friday, then lets just go ahead and get started with our group of seven.

well philli needs to be in my group because he lives about 20 minutes away and I can hand him the books to be graded, when Im selling him his ghostrider issues. Thats right I'm the reason he's this big of a dork! MUHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAH wheeze wheeze MUHAHAHA Cough cough forget it . Gawd im getting old!

No worries, if we do end up having two groups, you guys can definately stay in the same one. One thing I would try to do with two groups, would be to split them somewhat evenly based on grading experience. That way, graders with less experience get the benefit of being in a group with others who have more experinece.

Ahh... but this was the plan all along. However, no fair showing pics, until the books have made their "rounds." Once we get done with round one, we will be posting scans, and some of our notes.

Unless things change, here's Group 1. I rearranged the order, to show how the books should be shipped from one grader to the next, based on location.

1) Philli
2) theimmortalironfist
3) antikryst
4) LadyJay
5) NEXTLVL
6) yourfriendandy
7) bovard

great! im 3rd :)

should be enough time to get to me and to get it out back to the rest before i leave NJ on december 6. already got my copy of overstreet grading guide 3rd edition. should help me out with this exercise.

for the 3 books we will be grading.. would these be different conditions? say 1 low grade, 1 mid grade, then 1 high grade? also, i think it would be best if the books would be silver-bronze at least. so we could also factor in paper color, tanning, etc thats should only be seen in older books.

maybe for the high grade one we could have a cheap modern book from the 90s at least. something that should grade in the NM area (9.0 up).

just some suggestions.

anyways... im all excited for this one.

I'd be keen to join in.

I realise that some may be reluctant to ship to me all the way over here in New Zealand so I'd be happy to donate 3 books for one group to start things rolling if you needed me to.

Ok, we have decided to move ahead with Group 1. It is a slightly large group for the way this works (with shipping/grading time, etc.), but I don't want to split up the group at this point, and most who have signed up are probably ready to start.

Group 1:

1) Philli
2) theimmortalironfist
3) antikryst
4) LadyJay
5) NEXTLVL
6) yourfriendandy
7) bovard

I have rearranged the order to show how the books should be shipped from one grader to the next, based on location. So, as soon as Philli is ready, lets get started. If there are any questions, please pm me. Also, I will be sending an individual pm to everyone in Group 1, letting you know we are starting, as well as shipping info.

Ideally it would be good to try and keep the turnaround time to 1 week or under, that way we keep things moving along smoothly.

Remember to document your grades with "Graders Notes," so later on when we compare grades, etc, we all have a record of the individual comics. The main goal is learn from each other, as well as to become more consistent in grading, and have some fun. Ultimately, we will try and come to an agreement on all grades - here's where the notes should be a big help. If anyone is interested, I have a format for grading that separates the subjective from the objective, and it really seems take some of the "subjectiveness" out of grading. I would be happy to email it, or you are welcome to use your own method/format for graders notes.

Once we finish Round 1, I will be posting scans and the graders notes that go along with each book.

Also, since we have received some additional interest, I am going to start a second group. So, if you're still interested, but thought there was no more room, sign up
for Group 2.

So far we have:

1) Komohah
2) bovard
3)

All I can tell you right now is - yes! Seriously though, there should be a nice group of older and newer books, as well as a range of grades. Can't say anything else right now, becuase I don't want to spoil the surprise.

GROUP 1

I have the books ready and they will ship out to Antikryst tomorrow, so we've officially started. I’ve tried to put together a reasonable selection of books. They cover a range of grades and time periods.

Shipping order for Group 1 is:

1) LadyJay (books sent)
2) Antikryst
3) theimmortalironfist
4) NEXTLVL
5) yourfriendandy
6) bovard

If you could post here when you receive and ship teh books, I'm sure everyone would appreciate knowing how far along we are.

Just a few additional notes:

1. When you have finished Grading the Books, please either PM or email me with your grades and notes before you send the books to the person on the list. Wait to hear back from me before sending the books on. As the books go from person to person, the condition may change slightly due to handling due to grade and the USPS. Also, different people tend to see different things. I’d like to be able to compare your notes to mine and those of others and resolve any questions I may have while you still have the books.

2. Please remember not to post or share your notes until everyone has had a chance to grade the books. Once I hear back from the last person, I’ll make sure that everyone gets a copy of the complete set of grading notes and we can discuss our differences as a group. I’m sure Miles (bovard) has already thought about the best way to do this.

3. Have fun!

EDIT: There are 4 books. In order to keep shipping costs down for everyone, there are 2 books to each bag and board. I was able to package them to stay under the 13 oz. 1st class mail limit and still keep them will protected.
