Hello all,

I've been depressed almost 4 years, up and down it seems. My doctor described it as manic, with a touch of a personality disorder.

That's all great (I've know I was different since I was 6) but, lately it seems to work on like clockwork, the worst time being around the 12th of May (my daughter's birthday).

I dont know, I thought it was interesting.

Hi Tim,
I want to let you know first off that you are not alone. I was in a similar situation as you when I was your age. I'll be 44 this year and things haven't always been easy but that's life for you. What I can tell you is that the most important thing for you to remember is that your daughter needs you, now and in the future. Whether you and her mother reconcile is really irrelevant, the little girl takes precedence over all. You should definitely keep on good terms with her mother and never argue in front of your child. I won't presume to know the exact circumstances of your relationship but you should certainly try to stay on good terms at least.

I've also been through some severe depression, at times I wasn't sure I would make it to 24 much less 44. You should try not to dwell on negative or depressing things too much. Find other interests to distract yourself, focus on positive events in your life and talk to other people who are peers of yours about things. Don't bottle your emotions up, find a way to channel them into positive energy. Don't be afraid to cry. I know, men aren't supposed to cry. Screw that, you will be amazed at how good you feel after just letting the tears flow.

From your posts I will assume that you are religious, is there a young adult group at your place of worship that you can connect with? If you are into sports you may be able to find a local volleyball club or softball league or (my personal favorite - frisbee golf) with people your age to interact with. You would be surprised at how many people may be in a similar situation as yours.

My Friend, I am no psychiatrist or counselor (and I'm not saying you need one) but I would be more than happy to talk to you on a personal level. If you need anything or want to talk then feel free to PM me directly or call my home phone. 804-644-1613

I wish nothing but the best for you and your family,
Howie

Exactly! Don't feel as if you're alone. Lean on family an friends for support. A minister, counselor, etc., anyone that will listen and help you through it.
