I hate alternate reality characters, specifically dealing with the subtle name changes. This week's new Marvel alt reality title, X-Treme X-Men, features several characters introduced in Astonishing X-Men (2004) #44-47, including Emmeline Frost-Summers, Kurt Waggoner, and a Wolverine character named James Howlett. Emmeline and Kurt were easy adds to the DB as their names are different enough from existing characters, but Howlett gave me pause. We already have "Logan / James "Jim" Howlett" in the Database, but this character has never been known as Logan nor does he use the nickname Jim. Does this character warrant a new Database entry of simply "James Howlett"?

I think so.

"Those who can see have climbed high enough on the mountain where their view of the horizon is much more broad than your own view. You're still at the base, so when they're talking to you they can see so much more than you. And you might disagree because you're at the base and you don't see $hit." -Greg Capullo

Just wish there was a way to differentiate them so the wrong James Howlett doesn't get added to issues.

As i said in the Vance Astro thread, another great place for character bios.

Or something where you can mouse over a character name when adding them to an issue and it shows us the titles (not issues) that the character is associated with.

But yeah, character bios and linking real names/code names are a big need.

So do I. I love the idea of character bios attached to DB entries, but I just don't see it happening anytime soon. Situations like this make me wish we could use parenthesis and alt-reality identification as a stop-gap measure: "James Howlett (Earth-xxxx)"

Digging this up.
Does anyone know if Namor in this title has been named as"Namor McKenzie"? If so, this single name should be Invalidated and replaced with the previously existing entry.

No, he was not named Namor McKenzie in that story. I was the one who originally added the character.
