I felt tempted to add a few of my faves, in no particular order:

The Exorcist,
The Omen,
An American Werewolf in London,
The Thing (1982),
Dawn of the Dead (1978),
Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974),
Halloween (1978),
The Howling,
Freaks,
The Fly (1986),
Nosferatu (1922),
Rosemary's Baby,
The Hills Have Eyes (1977),
Candyman,
The Wicker Man (1973),
The Hunger,
Deep Red,

Just a few that aren't out-and-out Horrors but whose creepy atmospheres deserve mentions; Repulsion, Black Christmas (1974), The Other, Don't Look Now and The Vanishing (1988).

John Carpenter's The Thing is tops for me. I will name more later, but The Thing is probably my alltime favorite.

I rented the latest THING movie the other night and figured it would suck big time since it seemed to be in the theaters for 2 weeks before going to dvd. I'm happy to say that it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it'd be. I didn't realize until the end that it is a prequel to John Carpenter's "The Thing" because the ending is the beginning of his version. Pretty cool the way they made this one start up Carpenter's. Cool

American Psycho is my all time favorite. As far as supernatural goes I'd lean towards Hellraiser and Nightbreed.

Prometheus is set in a sci-fi world, but the story and intensity of it leads me to belive it can also put it into the horror genre. And it was a fantastic film.

Hands down - The Thing (1982)

There is a little side story to this that might make you understand why this was the scariest horror movie I ever saw.

When I saw this, I was living in Iceland at the time (I was a military brat), and my sister and I had to walk home after seeing it in the middle of winter in the dark and snow for nearly a mile. That was the longest walk evaarrr!!!

Some others that make the list:

28 Days Later
Alien
Children of the Corn
An American Werewolf in London
The Howling
Wolfen
The Fly
Carrie
The Exorcist
The Shining
American Psycho
Nightbreed
Scanners
