I was wondering what everyone else thought of Superior Spider-Man #1. I was really let down with the way ASM #700 ended, and it really caused me to be less than excited for SSM #1. Overall, I thought issue one was kind of dull and bland. I'm not really buying Otto Octavius as a "good guy". I was ready to give up on Superior Spider-Man all together until I got to the last page. I really expected it to be really dragged out before Peter made an appearance again, but having him involved this early on had me eager to see where it goes. It wasn't something I was expecting and was enough to get me interested enough to keep reading. What are your guys thoughts?

I liked it. I also don't buy Otto as a good guy, but that's part of the charm. Knowing that a little part of Peter still has some sort of sub-conscious control over Otto's actions as has been evident from pretty much the get go. Slott has done a good job of having the reader sympathise with Otto without totally trusting him. I thought it was fun seeing what another genius could do with Spider-Man's powers, or rather, how he choses to use them. Peter's always relied more on his physical prowess than his mental acuity, while Otto has really only relied on his "superior intellect". So seeing Spidey turn coatails and run from a fight only to regroup and patiently formulate a tactical plan (Otto IS the master planner after all) was pretty neat to see. I almost couldn't help but believe that with Otto at the helm of Peter's body and powers, he could very well truly be a Superior Spider-Man. Although he'll never have Peter's sense of responsibility and willpower.

I haven't picked up my copy of Superior #1 yet but, thanks to the internet, I do know what happens. I was only shocked in the fact that they did it so soon. I figured at least six or so issues before they made this reveal. However, the way that the last story arc of Amazing went, this was not unexpected. I don't understand people who say this story is trash. Slott is a good writer and, event or not, this story has an interesting premise. I would have liked to see Otto running free for a few issues, or at least what we thought was free, and then see that Peter has been influencing him the whole time.

I thought this was a pretty good story. How can you not love a story with the living brain in it. I think Slott will handle this well and I am on for the ride. I liked how OctoPete dressed like Doc Oc in the lab, and I really thought the dinner with MJ was pretty funny.

I thought it was a pretty dull story too but the last page did make it worth while. We all know Amazing will come back eventually.

But I gotta say Doc better keep his paws off my MJ....

i like what they've done and it'll turn out to be a great story. was i POed at first? you bet you're butt i was. but now we all know its just another Doc Ock Vs. Spidey story with a new twist and i've accepted it knowing pete will be back. i love doc ock. he's one of my favorite villians. however did they really have to church this up as another marvel now BS title? i think not. this could have been a regular story in ASM title (which i believe i read early on that it was suppose to be until they wanted to throw spidey in the Marvel now crap.) so yeah its the same thing thats been going on for the past 50 years. theres always a "shake up", someone always "dies". me personally i would like to see pete getting older and having a family. i think it'd be fresher. what happened to maturing the character? i mean he graduates high schools, ends up working at the daily bugle, he gets get married... and then stagnation sets in. and they almost got out of that with MJ getting pregnant in the 90's. then Pete was the clone and then he wasn't. then MJ has a miscarriage. i guess they tried with the whole Gwen having an affair with Norman and having twins and etc. is this a refreshing story? i guess so.. i don't feel it is because we know Pete will be back and it'll return to ASM after 100 issues of SSM or whatever. its just marvel trying to sell more books which i understand but i feel it was unnecessary.

Got a chance to catch up on reading this weekend, and after #4, I'm definitely enjoying this way more than I thought I would. Mostly because of Ghost Peter being around all the time. If he wasn't there, I doubt it'd still be on my pull. Plus, the last page of #4 got me excited! Can't wait to see who's under the mask!
