I used to have my movies organized by genre, but when my girlfriend moved in and we combined DVDs she wanted to go alphabetical. Now Avengers is nowhere near Iron Man or Thor. I'm still not sure how I feel about it. How are your movies organized?

Mine is a mixture. I have all my superhero movies together but they are alphabatized within that genre. Some, I have by actor, my Will Ferrell's are all together organized by release date. Ones that I don't have a specific section for are alphabatized. It's really confusing to pretty much anybody but myself. I can go right to where I have a movie without having to think about it. So, to me, my weird "organization" works.

Mine are in no order at all. It's hell to find a specific movie, but it's fun to just look and see what jumps out at you.

The following stores are all stores that I've dealt with or have become friends with through the forums and I highly recommend them all.

I have my blu-rays separate from my regular DVDs and both are filed A-Z by title regardless of genre.

Blu-rays and DVDs are filed together in alphabetical order (more or less - I keep series in order regardless of title [the Harry Potter films and Fast & Furious films are good examples]). VHS (yes, I still have them) are on separate.

4 sections:
-Live action feature films (mostly alphabetical, except for series - ie, all of the James Bond movies are together, in release order under B for "Bond").
-Animated feature films, alphabetical
-Live action television series, alphabetical
-Animated television series, alphabetical

Exception example: Transformers: The Movie is filed in with the TV series, placed between seasons where it goes in the storyline.

DVD and Blu-Ray are all lumped in together.

These are currently set aside... I'm thinking about sticking them in under M for "Marvel", arranged in release order.

My Avengers movies are still in alphabetical order, but I've put all of my Marvel Icons Busts in front of the movie they go with. Looks pretty sweet on the shelves.

Beta Movies go on left book shelf and sorted by movie type (action, romance, comedy etc)

Laser Discs go on right book shelf and organized alphabetically.

And I keep my 35mm porn in the attic

I am lucky havent added a new movie in years. I made my wife throw out her fancy VHS tapes when we got married.

This is the method we went with so it's not too frustrating haha. All F&F is together and all Harry Potter together ( in order of course). I guess the only thing that is really awkward to me is that Amazing Spider-Man is so far away from the first trilogy. At the moment Dark Knight is separate from Batman Begins which I plan to remedy

I did end up moving the Dark Knight films next to Batman Begins. And all my Star Trek films are in order of release. Strangely though, my 007 films are spread out everywhere... may have to change that.

I don't have a great deal of DVDs. I mostly find.. alternative methods when I want to watch movies.

But I sort them by movies, then TV series, then Anime... All sorted alphabetically, with sequels/whatnot in the same place as the #1.

Hey Dylan. I don't know if you've heard anything about it but there's this thing called the 21st Century? They make talking pictures in full color and sound and everything now! Laughing

and of course, the movies are in there according to star-date order as well!
TOS and TAS are the exception as they just made up random star-dates for each ep in those two series, but I did move the bonus features disc from season 1 to the 'front' of the set so "The Menagerie" is first..

Immanently logical.

Blu Ray are separate from dvds. The Blu Rays have no real order, except movies in a series are together. The dvds are organized into genres (kinda)
I have horror movies together, superhero movies(both live and animated) are together then separated into Marvel,DC, and all others, Batman has his own section, tv series are all together, Sci Fi all together, then everything else is lumped together. No alphabetical order.

I have over 600 dvd's and i'm seriously thinking about putting them in those big 100 disc cd books. Maybe snipping out the movie title from the box and slipping it in there with each movie. I love being able to see them all, but my living room is starting to look like blockbuster.

You can buy mulit-disc cases pretty cheap - I've consolidated a lot of sets into these and saved a ton of space.
All of the Transformers TV series (plus the movie and Scramble City) in two cases that take up the same amount of space as two season in the retail packaging.
All 4 of the Underworld Blu-Rays in one case that is the same size as a normal Blu-Ray case.
Etc, etc
I also scavenge between titles - every Disney Blu-Ray includes the same movie on DVD for example. Put the BD in a single disc case, put the extra disc(s) in a spindle/cake-box and now you've got a multi-disc case to use for a series.
LOTR Extended Edition = 3 5-disc cases, but the movies are only on 6 of those 30 discs. I've moved those into a single 6-disc case and all the 'extra' discs are elsewhere. Now two of those 5-disc cases have already been used for other title collections.
