So now that Philip Rivers has left the Chargers and Drew Brees is returning to the Saints the elephant in the room is whither goes Thomas Edward Patrick Brady, Jr.?

Speculation is high that he will either stay with the Patriots, sign with another team or retire. Big Grin

What do you think will happen? Will he return to New England for another season or 2 or 3? Will he hit Free Agency and move along to another team and if so, which one? Or does he call it a career and fade into the sunset with his smokestack wife who just happens to make even more money than he does? Or do you even give a bull's bleep?

I think it's 70% chance that he stays with the Pats, 30% chance he goes to a West Coast team.

Either way, it'll be a big dollar, one year contract.

Not that I care Winking but I have heard several interesting scenarios.

Let me say first that I don't think it is likely that he will retire. I am also more than 50% sure that he won't be a Patriot next year. I wouldn't be surprised if he was to return but I've got a feeling that he won't.

So, which team will he go to?

Not sure right now but here are the ones I've heard mentioned:

Chargers - Rivers gone, they're moving into a new stadium, could boost ticket sales.

Titans - Yeah I know they have Tannehill and Mariota but still...

Raiders - HaHaHaHaHa!!!Rolling on the Floor Oh wait, seriously? Confused

Buccaneers - That is actually intriguing. I could see a fit there.

Dolphins - Um, no - ain't happening.

Redskins - See response to Raiders above and add Ooh Shame on You Wall

Ravens - Not likely. Brady won't want to be a backup and there might be a mutiny if Lamarr is benched.

Panthers - Another intriguing option but I don't see it with a new coach coming in.

Cowboys - That would be soo funny! I hope this happens. Drooling Drooling Drooling

I could go through the whole league (Colts? Broncos?) but ...Devil

Someone on ESPN just mentioned that the Giants were interested. Of course they are. But why would Brady be interested in them? Confused

The teams I think are most likely to go after Brady (other than the Patriots):

Chargers, Raiders, and Colts.

Chargers just parted with Phillip Rivers and have no one to replace him yet. And I think they're still of the mindset that they could win next year... even if they can't get any fans to come see their games.

Raiders makes sense because ownership seems to have become disenfranchised with Derrick Carr (unjustifiably so in my opinion), but the big reason is that Brady would be a big draw in Vegas.

I think the Colts would be the most likely if it wasn't for Deflategate. Maybe Brady still harbors ill will towards the Colts for that, maybe he doesn't. But the Colts have a lot of weapons on offense a solid young defense, a massive hole at QB, and over $85m in cap room this year. This is the one team that I think would go from middle of the pack to top 5 Super Bowl contender with a big upgrade at QB.

Other teams I could see going after him as a plan B: Titans (if they don't re-sign Tannehill), Bucs (if they don't re-sign Winston), and the Bears (if literally everyone else decides they don't want Brady)

edit: It was pointed out to me that even if Brady wanted to go the Colts, the fan base might very well revolt against Irsay if he tries to sign Brady. There's a visceral hatred for Brady in the Colts fan base and even if the move makes sense, it might not be welcome at all.

My guess is the Raiders. Ticket sales? Gruden's strange new QB fascination? Only team left that's willing to pay the big bucks for a very short term fix? We will see.

Tommy Boy Moving On

Titans just re-upped Tannehill, Raider picked up Mariotta, Vikings doubled down on Cousins...what's left? Dallas? Washington? Tampa? XFL? Nowhere?

Brady to Tampa.

Of course, now he'll have the chip on his shoulder than no one really does well when they leave a team they've been on for a really long time.

It's interesting to note how much my seething hatred for Tom Brady seemed to subside when he announced he was leaving the Patriots (even if I'm still holding a bit of reservation until he has physically signed a contract with the Bucs (or someone else if that falls thought.))

It'll be back in short order, I'm sure.
