I just purchased a comic with a 1960 Sheriff of Tombstone 10 cover printed on one side only stapled to a Navy Fighting Guts(?) comic which wasn't to be sold for another two months. What do I have?

Was it this?

https://www.ebay.com/itm/ERROR-1960-SHERIFF-OF-TOMBSTONE-10-W-BLANK-INSIDE-COVER-AND-FIGHTIN-NAVY-GUTS-/124265173834?nma=true&si=WZ8vnmoqW9wUVnK6tiA8WK4Amok%253D&orig_cvip=true&nordt=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

For posterity, here's the description, in case it gets taken down:

Quote:
This is for a very unusual piece.

If it were a coin, I could figure it out...somewhat.

A 'cover' for Sheriff of Tombstone # 10 published by Charlton in July 1960/

But it isn't and wasn't.

The inside cover of this is blank...the scan shows the outside cover showing though.

So I am thinking it was pulled from production.

THEN...

and this is pure guessing on my part...two months later, the printer fouls up.

When fixed, the guys need a way to test and see if itd working... they have this useless cover and a coverless copy of

Fightin' Navy # 94 which is due to go out.

They grab a the cover, fed it through the machine and it works.

Tombstone Cover gets stapled to the Fightin' Navy 'guts'.

Book is sup[pose to be destroyed, but somehow gets out into circulation.

Book is in wonderful high grade (9.2-9,4?)

Light discoloration to the pages and inside cover.

Bright colors on the outside cover.

Unique? One of a kind? Who knows. It happened 60 years ago...

Too high? Okay I will take offers, but of course I doubt if you will find another one...

Please feel free to ask questions.

Shipped First Class insured.

Charlton was known for having poor production values and low quality control. Totally not surprising that these got let out onto newsstands.

Thanks for that. And I chose to start collecting Charlton comics. Hmmm...now do I collect the good ones or the bad ones. Lol.

I always liked Charlton. The underdog publisher. Scrappy, and making it all work.
