Just got back from seeing this movie. I loved every minute of it. Any doubts I had about it were wiped away in the first 5 minutes. As soon as it was over I wanted to see it again. Karl Urban was excellent as Dredd, he captured the character perfectly and the movie captured the tone of the comics. I recommend seeing it in 3D as it was the best I've seen since Avatar.

I really know very little about Judge Dredd other than he's a judge in the future. Anything else I need to know before seeing this?

That's pretty much all you need to know. In the future, Judges are the law and act as judge, jury and executioner. This movie was raw, gritty and absolutely pulled no punches. It takes the Stallone version, drags it into the street and shoots it in the face for the poser, lame representation of Dredd that is was.

I've heard a lot of good reviews for this movie. I'm looking forward to it. But I'm waiting until it hits the cheap theater in town ($1.50).

I've been hearing some good things about this movie. I also noticed one of the movie posters online:

Seemed familiar to me. Oh yeah, here:
