I got started on reading super-hero comics during my teen years in the 1970's. I loved Marvel Comics because of the realism of the stories. Sure there were great fight scenes, flashy costumes, fearsome villains, etc., but the stories seemed like they occurred in the real world - or close to it.

This last page from Nova #5 perfectly exemplifies what I am talking about.
