So, I'm working on a collection we've just taken in, and I've got a decent copy of Amazing #238. 1st Hobgoblin. Really nice book. Displays as a VF, pages are off-color, so knock it down a peg, but ... it's missing the damn tattoos.

How far down from a "VF" does this knock it, in your opinion?

Did they all come with the tattoo?

Can't remember specifically but I don't think the newsstand issue I bought off the rack had one. It's long gone now so not sure.

From what I understand, if the issue proclaimed that it comes with a tattoo (Spidey #238 and FF #252), then all copies were printed with the tattoo included. With that being said, it appears the printery had an overstock of the tattoos, so you will sometimes find books from that month with the tattoos inlcuded (Defenders #117 is a more common example).

I'd grade the comic the same with or without the tattoos, with a note that the tattoos are missing. Same as grading an open copy of X-Force #1 with no card.

Overstreet lists 2 versions, one with, one without. The missing tattoo version in Overstreet is 1/2 the value of the "complete" copy. So, $160 vs. $80 in NM.

$160.. Thats hilarious (not because of it being 160, but at my local mall at a pop-culture shop they have a copy of this with the tattooz and the sticker price is was almost $300.)

Guessing they dont really want to sell it.. hehe.
