I can see that. Scott Snyder built it up and me, personally, was expecting a huge climax and it just kind of fizzled.

I just read an article on CNN where Scott Snyder is talking about Death of the Family. It's very funny to me to see comics writers try to be all analytical and introspective and deep regarding Batman and the Joker (or any other characters, for that matter). Not that I disagree with it all, but it just comes across as silly. Can't imagine what non-comics fans must think reading the interview.

I was extremely disappointed with the ending of DotF. So very disappointed. Love Snyder's work on American Vampire. His work on Batman in the N52 has left me kinda meh.

So, so far the opinions of DotF has been "blah", and "meh". Not a resounding endorsement. Anyone else?

I had mid-level hopes for the storyline, going into Batman #17. Especially from all the #16 issues.

iu loved court of owls... and this story line could have been way better. i bet the editors or something pushed for this story line to end quickly.

I thought the storyline was also pretty blah. It wasn't bad and it wasn't great. Although I think this is a springboard to Batman working alone more. Anybody see the spoilers on Batman Inc. #8 with Damian on the cover and the letters R.I.P. on it? I remember when Batman 676 had the same thing with Batman on the cover and they made it seem like Batman would die in that storyline and nobody died. I wonder if this is going to be the same deal?
Free shipping is available on ANY order $25.00 and above. No minimum books necessary. Whether it's 1 book or 100 books. If it's $25.00 or more, it ships FREE! I'm a big Snyder fan, but I have to admit the ending to "Death" was a little anti-climactic. I wonder if this was the story he really wanted to tell; it seemed to be building up to something more.

I'm glad the storyline is over.It started off decent then built very nicely but in the end it limped across the finish line.Issue 16 of Nightwing,Red Hood,Teen Titans, and Batman were rounded out with an intense cliffhanger.Too bad that shared cliffhanger turned out to be Batman #17.I wasnt expecting any big deaths but it would have been nice to have had something happen, like the reveal of Joker's identity. Now to be fair Snyder did accomplish what the storyline was titled "Death Of The Family". But instead of "death" it came across more like "pouting of the family".

My thoughts exactly. Maybe we'll get a Director's Cut in 20 years... Jesus is the Son of God! THE DARK KNIGHT LIVES!As soon as I get my gun, Ima point it out the window toward the setting sun.

WTF. I know I'm a little late, but I just finally had a chance to read Batman 17 and to say I'm disappointed is an understatement. This story line started off with such promise only for it to end in a lame fizzle. I was expecting something major to happen, only to be completely disappointed. Calling this issue blah is a serious understatement. It was on par with Amazing Spider-Man 700.

If anything it was more of a "fracturing" of the family. Yes a wedge has been driven between Batman and his "family" but it is not a death note.

From Comic Book Resources' reporting of ECCC's DC All Access panel: Synder comments on the Death of the Family storyline: CBR wrote:"DC pretty much gave me the ability to kill anybody I wanted...I thought about taking off a finger here or there but then backed away from that. But at the end of the day, the story was about Joker saying 'I am your family. The Royal Court of Arkham is your family.'" That relationship with Joker is what really died at the end of the arc as Batman played the same joke on the villain he was trying to play on the Dark Knight. "But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who do you harm." ~Jesus (Matthew 5:44)

I agree the ending didn't really do it for me I guess my hopes were maybe a little too high.....can't wait to see what he does with the Riddler in his next story arc.
