Preseason has started so we might as well get on with it ourselves!

Last night Redskins rookie Dwayne Haskins looked really good. Then he looked really bad. Then good. Then back to bad.

Basically he looked like a rookie starting his first NFL game. There were flashes of brilliance followed by dumb mistakes but I can see the talent and hope he figures out the rest. I certainly don't think he will be ready to start in Week 1. One thing I can see is that, unlike Bob Griffin from a few years ago, Haskins knows when to slide rather than take a hit.

I know it meaningless and they don't count...

But the Ravens are on a 14 game preseason winning streak!

They're now tied with the '57-'59 Bears and '60-'63 Chargers for the 2nd longest preseason winning streak in NFL history, behind only the '59-'63 Packers (I guess they played more than 4 preseason games per year back then.)

So I hear the Bears are looking for a kicker? Kaare Vedvik was with the Ravens last training camp and looked fantastic before he was assaulted and ended up on the non-football related injury list. He appears to be back at full strength because last night we went 4-4 on FGs from 26, 29, 45, and 55 yards.

I remember when everyone (myself included) laughed at the Steelers for "only" getting a 3rd and 5th round draft pick in exchange for Antonio Brown...

...Right now it looks like they hosed the Raiders completely in that trade.

HaHaHaHa!!! How funny is it that Colin Kaepernick thinks he still has a shot at playing in the NFL? I mean, c'mon dude. There is not a single owner in the National Football League that will stick his neck out there to hire someone who so obviously hates the military, gives cops the double finger salute and probably uses the American Flag as toilet paper.

Now if only he had beaten up women (Kareem Hunt, Reuben Foster, dozens of others) or broken a 3 year old boys arm (Tyreek Hill) raped someone (Ben Roethlisberger) or killed a bunch of dogs (Michael Vick) then he would certainly have been given another shot.

Better think about that the next time you decide to peacefully protest what you perceive to be racial and social injustices. Straight Face

Honestly, I think the reason that he doesn't have a job in the NFL right doesn't have as much to do with Kaep protesting as people think.

1) The Broncos agreed in principle to trade for Kaep while he was still under contract with the 49ers. They backed out of the trade when Kaep refused to take a pay-cut.

2) He opted out of his contract with the 49ers and expected to get paid more by another team. Note that the 49ers would likely have released him anyway, but he had unrealistic expectations. He thought another team would pay him more than he made with the 49ers BECAUSE he protested, not that they'd be less interested because of it.

3) The Ravens were on the verge of offering Kaep a contract. And then his girlfriend LITERALLY (literally the literal meaning of literally) called Ray Lewis an Uncle Tom (by putting his photo side by side with a picture of Samuel L. Jackson's slave character from Django Unchained.)

4) He annoyed the NFL owners by pursuing his collusion case that he had no chance of winning. He just kept pushing it long enough to force the owners to settle (for practically nothing, it's worth pointing out), just so they could avoid discovery and potentially having the private finances of NFL clubs being made public.

And as a funny tangent. If you get a chance, read the entire Donald Trump quote when he talks about Colin Kaepernick and if you want to die of alcohol poisoning, take a shot every time he says, "good enough."

All very valid points (or should I say, "good enough"?). You're right, he hasn't exactly done himself any favors.

I will say that the NFL settling the case seems like an admission that they were colluding against him.

The thing about his girlfriend is reprehensible but not entirely his fault. I am tired of people calling team owners (not just NFL but across sports) "slave owners" and likening franchises to plantations. That is ludicrous. I don't recall hearing that slaves made millions of dollars per year or had the freedom to go from one plantation to another. Stop it.

As much as I like drinking I don't think I could make it through the Donald's quote without passing out. Tongue

QB Josh Woodrum is the 1st QB to fall. Torn pec or something. They picked up another camp arm today but baring some miracle I can see him floundering through garbage time in the preseason games to come before getting cut to start the season.

If they can get a solid offensive line together it should be an interesting year. Enough potential to justify a new larger TV. Big Grin

Receivers are going to surprise some people how much better they are this year.

Top 10 Defense.

HOF level potential running backs with another waiting in the wing, maybe available late in the season.

I'm torn between wanting to give colt a few games to see if he can deliver on his potential, going with the proven vet or tossing the rookie into the fire right away to speed up his learning curve. I'm not even sure there is a correct answer. There's enough there to maybe package up Smith and Williams for a trade that lands a 1st round pick next year and maybe a starting caliber LT right now.

Only real question I'm still looking for an answer to is the rookie tight end. 6'8" screams give him a specialty roll in goal and short yardage as a jump ball specialist. Noone in the NFC has a tight end taller than 6'4" and two of them top out at 6'3". Sounds like a luxury pick for a specialty weapon there's no defense for if they can get it smoothed out. No opportunity really presented itself in the 1st game to showcase it.

Aww man, Woodrum was really a fan favorite of the Ravens fans the last two years during camp, even though there was no chance of him making the team either year.

So I got this Hulu thing on another 30 day free trial heading into and ongoing $44.99 a month thing and it still took calling them directly and 30 minutes on the phone to get the Richmond Local channels to come thru. I got that down and all set to watch and then at 7:30 exactly they take FOX off the air. After scrambling around for alternatives for a while, I find it's showing on some Washington Sports channel that was included. Does this keep happening all season? I like my FOX announcers and stuff.

Who is to blame for us missing the Haskins touchdown? They pop back from commercial with the replay already in progress. Is that the Washington channel or did the Preseason broadcast in general have everyone miss it?

Hulu comes with a pause and rewind feature but unless you pay more it doesn't let you fast forward thru commercials to catch back up. I was behind all the way thru until half time trying to make up for what I missed due to FOX disappearing.

So Josh Gordon was conditionally reinstated by the NFL so he can play for the Patriots this season.

Does anyone feel like this is complete garbage?

This was his FOURTH suspension for substance abuse and he essentially only gets four games (he was suspended for the last 4 games of last season).

His second suspension was ten games (under the current substance abuse rules) and his third was indefinite. So how the heck is his fourth suspension less severe than his second?

Not surprisingly this benefits the Patriots significantly. I'm sure that's a total coincidence.

Does anyone actually know what is and isn't pass interference anymore? I'm no longer sure after Thursday. Was that the 4th string officials two weeks away from getting cut?

I don't think the new rule is going to cause as many problems as you think it will. Remember last year when the new stricter rule was put into effect about initiating contact with the helmet being a penalty for virtually anyone and everyone. The flag rate for the new penalty was ridiculous in the preseason, but in the regular season people figured it out and it became basically a non-issue.

I think the same thing is going to happen with the new PI review.

And I'd rather have the new PI review rule than another season without it.

Now if only the NFL would fix the horribly broken onside kick...
