I'm guessing it's as simple as unrolling and setting 15 tons of books on top, but maybe technology has change things.....

Anyone?

Pretty much. I dabbled in learning how to press books for a minute, but I never have books valuable enough to spend the time messing with it. I also just use a stack of encyclopedias to flatten books out.

Some years back I stumbled onto some old movie posters. I found a great website that was a good database resource, but they also offered appraisal services. You'd send posters and one-sheets in and they would grade and appraise them. The funny thing is that if your posters needed to be pressed, they just put them underneath heavy object (books, whatever) for (get this) six months before appraising them. So I guess it's a tried and true method.

I do the same thing, just put it under something heavy for a while. It's not perfect but works well enough. I know somebody with a press but have never used it. He has offered.
