Was on another forum, and the topic came up on how to pronounce Daken's name. I've heard a lot of people call him "Daykin" but the actual pronunciation is "Dah-kin" or "Dokken" like the rock/metal band.

The reason I made this topic was to see if anyone here had a character or characters that they wasn't sure about? Examples for me would be Thanos, I've heard that name pronounced about 3-4 different ways.

Does anyone have similar stories?

magneto

Makes sense that it would be pronounced magnet--o, cause his powers are magnetic.
But I always hear it pronounced magneeto.

Ra's al Ghul

I've read somewhere that it comes from Arabic origins and is pronounced Raysh al Ghoul. Any thoughts?

1. I have always thought Daken to be pronounced Day-ken. I know I heard an interview once with Joe Q and he pronounced it that way.

2. Magneto has always been Magneeto. I don't know why though. The earliest pronounciation I heard of that though was on Spidey and his amazing friends and it was Magnet-o.

3. Ra's for me, is as it is said on BTAS.

I've always wondered about Namor. I say Nay-mor but I've heard Na-mor.

Yeah, I've always said Mag-NEATO, Roz Al Ghoul and Nay-mor.

As far as Thanos goes I've heard

Thaynose
Tha-Nas (<----like the rapper)
Than(like fan)os

When I was a kid I pronounced him Mag-net-Oh until I learned about real Magnetos in school and realized it was pronounced Mag-neat-Oh

Growing up I always found Dr. Strange comics to be full of challenging pronunciations. For example, is it 'Dormahmmu' or 'Dormummu'?

I've always said it, "Tay-know-s" (with hard emphasis on the "s")

Always figured the name was a shortening of the Greek God of Death,
Thanatos (thăn ŭ tōs) and that it was Thăn ōs (like fan)

Mon-El was one I still can't get right in my head since I said it as

Mon L (as in on) for years, of course now I know it is
Mun L (as he was named for Monday and the family El)

Just watch the movies - most of those names are pronounced in them - figure it's pretty accurate (especially the Marvel ones with Stan Lee on board).

Not a Canadian thing. I just associated Thanos with other "TH" names like:

Thomas
Thames River
Thyme
Thailand
Theresa

etc.....
