Anyone up for a College Footpall picks competition this season ?

Unless any objections or suggestions, format would be similar to last season:

jbeeman85 wrote:
There will be one game per category. Straight up pick the winner. No point spread involved except in the Beat the Spread category.

TOP 25 - One game featuring two teams ranked in the Top 25 (10 pts if you are correct)

INTER CONFERENCE - One game featuring teams from two different Conferences (10 pts if you are correct)

INTRA CONFERENCE - One game featuring two teams from the same Conference (10 pts if you are correct)

RANDOM - One game picked randomly (10 pts if you are correct)

BEAT THE SPREAD - This will be a game that has a ridiculous gambling spread number. You predict Over/Under (10 pts if you are correct)

FCS GAME OF THE WEEK - One game featuring teams from the FCS (Football Championship Subdivision) (10 pts if you are correct)

Each week 6 choices will be posted: the Top 25, Intra Conference, Inter Conference, Random, Beat the Spread and FCS Game of the Week match ups. Your picks have to be in before the games start

Base total you can accumulate per week would be 60 if you get all 6 picks correct

Hoos up for some College Football? Me! I am!

Hopefully we will do bad enough this year to get that horrible coach fired and find somebody better. Daydreaming

I think the closest thing we have to a conference game in the power 4 is convicts vs. catholics - Miami and Notre Dame.
Thought we had a legit one when I saw Utah at UCLA, but then remembered it wasn't 2022 anymore.

I appreciate not having the Beamer Bowl in these picks, because I might have to go head vs. heart there. Either way, I'll pick Beamer's team.

Top 25 - Texas Longhorns

INTER - Louisiana State Tigers

Random - Temple Owls

BTS - Nevada Wolf Pack @ Penn State Nittany Lions (PSU by 44.5 points)
NO

That's what I was thinking as well.

SVP just said that Fox is going to simulcast Corso's final headgear pick on Gameday. That's some ultimate respect across networks.

That was really cool! Props to the networks that did that.

Well, I guess I'm not going to fire Tony Elliott just yet. They did look sloppy at times yesterday and play calling can be head scratching at times. Whole new roster. I only recognized like a handful of guys other than the kicker who came back from last year. Guess that's going to be the thing now. I saw that Marshall had 78 players transfer out last year. Ooh

Other random thoughts about Day 2 of the 4 day opening weekend. Or was it Day 3 of a five day weekend? Confused

Why in the heck was Alabama ranked #8?

Guess we can cool the jets a little on the Arch Manning for Heisman movement. I'll be honest though, the final score was 14-7 but Texas turned the ball over on downs twice inside the 10 yard line. If they had taken those Field Goals instead it would have been a 1 point game and all they would have needed to do was get the FG instead of the TD on that last drive. I know it's easy to second guess now but I'm just sayin'.

Hey Jeremy! How do you like your new QB?

With Bill Belichick now at UNC how many times do you think he will get caught cheating this year? Not in football, I mean on his girlfriend? Silly

I like that there were three Top 10 matchups this weekend. The first week or so of the season usually was just a bunch of cupcakes served up to the Big Boys but this time there was some better competition. Yeah, I still saw some 59-7 scores but for the most part there were some entertaining games here and there.

Back to UVA. I'm not sure if I should root for a good season or not. I mean obviously I would like for them to win but I don't think they have the coach for that personally. They could go 11-1 and lose their last regular season and I will be the first in line calling for his head. Devil

That Penn State/Nevada score seemed random 46-11 -- a scoregami that has never happened before.
11 seemed easy enough to figure out - FG and TD with two point. (Or do what VT did with 3 FGs and a safety).

PSU's 46 seemed a bit random. Just looked it up, and they had 4 TDs with extra points, one TD with no extra point, and 4 field goals.

I guess they decided that when they were up 36-3 halfway through the 3rd quarter, they should go for 2 to make it an even 5 TD lead over Nevada.

I guess James Franklin wanted to be sure he couldn't get beat with a PAT as time expired....or some other nonsense that crazy guy would say.

When I saw that score I thought the exact same thing. I think there's a website somewhere that tracks that sort of thing. It would probably be easier to do that in college football versus the NFL as there are so many more games but it did jump out to me as being an odd outcome.

WEEK 2

Top 25 - Michigan Wolverines - Wolvercheats win.

INTER - Iowa Hawkeyes - The Fighting Clint Barton's win!

INTRA - Navy Midshipmen - An Uncle and a Brother of mine would both be upset if I didn't pick Navy.

Random - Missouri Tigers - Cats eat Birds.

BTS - Kent State Golden Flashes @ Texas Tech Red Raiders (TX Tech by 48.5) NO - Red Raiders do not cover, somehow the Flashes keep it close.

FCS - Stephen F Austin Lumberjacks - Lumberjacks are OK. They sleep all night and they work all day.

What the heck did I just watch last night?

VT hasn't won a non conference game against a Power conference team since we beat WVU at FedEx in 2017. We started off up 20-10 at halftime. Somehow, we allowed the biggest win by a team who was down 10 points in over 80 years. Vanderbilt scored more in the second half than we've scored in two games.

Every good bit of progress I was complementing the team on in the first half was completely gone by the fourth quarter.

And to make the viewing experience worse, the announcers were all drooling over Vanderbilt all night -- during a game broadcast on the ACC Network!

I was excited when I saw the early score. Pavia is such a loud mouth jerk, really needs to get knocked down several hundred pegs. He really has the Vandy fans in town spouting off. They can be some of the most obnoxious people if given even the slightest bit to brag about.

Maybe Netflix paid the ACC Network to give Vandy hype since they're a big part of their series on the SEC (whether they mentioned the series directly or not).
