Just seen an update from a social media post from J.M. DeMatteis

"There's hardly a Marvel character Sal didn't leave his mark on, from Captain America to the Hulk, Avengers to Thor. Working with Sal for two years on Spectacular Spider-Man remains a highlight of my career. Not just a great artist, he was a truly good guy. Safe journeys, Sal. You will be missed."

His importance to the character of ROM is right up there with Bill Mantlo, who wrote every single issue. I'll have to go back and see how long his art tenure on the book was.

Okay, he did almost the whole series, all the way up to #58. Legend. Only to be replaced on the book by the inferior Steve Ditko. Yeah. I said it. Hey, his art in the 50's through 70's was fine. But for the 80's, on that book (ROM), at that time--not so great.
