I'm pretty secxited about this. It comes out Wednesday and even though I havnt been able to afford as many comics as I'd like to latley I'll deffinatly be at my LCS when it opens for this one.

I'm glad to see that this is a project that Smith is actually going to finish aswell. I still thinks it's kind of funny how he just never finished Dardevil: Target.

Hopefully Cacophany lives up to its hype though.

He can disrespect comic fans all he wants as far as I'm concerned. He writes good storys. Guardian Devil was awsome and so was Quiver. Hell, I really liked the one issue of Target that came out.

I understand where your comming from, but I really like his work. Not that I'm any kind of Kevin Smith superfan who buys all his shit and talks about how cool he is or anything, but like I said, I like his work.

Um, what?

You realize that the guy has his own comic shop, and even sold his comic collection to help fund Clerks?

With the exception of Daredevil: The Target, he's finished every comic project he's started, and the only one that was significantly late was Spider-Man: The Evil That Men Can Do.

That's why I added the "at least in the comics field" bit. I can't deny his awesomeness when it comes to movies. But I stand by my comments otherwise. I think he completely disrespects fans. When he's late, he's not just a little late, he completely leaves it then comes back to it later on.

And celebritism-type disregard for his actions is wrong. Just because he's famous, doesn't mean he has different standards he has to abide by.

I don't think treatment of the fans is secondary. While being the world's nicest guy doesn't automatically make you a great writer it doesn't hurt either.
For years the appeal of Kevin Smith was that he is a fan just like us,a fan that made it big but still one of us.I think somewhere along the way he lost sight of what he onced loved and what it meant to be a fan.Without fans there is no comic,I don't care if it is written by a big time celebrity.
Now I'm not saying that the fans are always right and that writers and artists should do everything we want them to but on the same note we shouldn't be the furthest thing from the writers or artist mind either.

Contradicting my earlier review of this book on the CCL database (which I posted as soon as Id read the issue only one time through), I am now going to say (having re-read it about 3 or 4 times and having actually THOUGHT ABOUT IT) you should not pick up this book.

For my initial review - click here

It wasnt terrible, but it wasnt good. It was 'run of the mill' okay, with some parts which seem funny at first, but after re-reading, become apparant that they are just plain stupid, dumb and not that funny at all.

My views on the artwork remain the same.

I would like to add however, that the opening bit where Deadshot is with The Joker chatting and then his encounter with Onamatapia, and the consequences of that 'encounter' (is how I would best put it without spoiling anything) was probably the most poorly written bit of comic strip in the whole book in my opinion.
I felt the conversation went on for hours (although the idea of the conversation was good), in the time it took Deadshot to do what we was doing (those who read will know what he was doing), he was able to inform the Joker all about life in Gotham since he had been away.
Then the fight scene... huh? Are you kidding me, it was over so quickly and it was over in the most ridiculous way as well, as if Smith didnt know how to end the fight so he just decided to take the easy way out and just land this one on us.

I didnt like the bit with Batman in either after having re-read it, far to rushed and the focus on batman as a character seemed.. weak.. nothing more than weak..

Anyway, having read this a few times, I feel there were more bits I didnt like about it than those which I did.

I would say this is Gotham for incredibly twisted kiddies.

Now I've never read any of Kevin Smith's stories so I didn't know what to expect. I thought it was ok, I would give it a 6/10. I'm not particularly fond of Kevin Smith's rendition of the Joker. Well, I think that it is not usual to re-read a comic shortly after you have read it, except if you have not understood something or it was so fantastic you HAVE TO read it twice.

Of course, as a collector you plan to re-read your comics at some time, even though it will get harder the bigger your collection gets (I am well over 10.000 comics and 90% have only been read once) and they will be only re-read after quite some time.

I mean, if you watch the best movie some times in a short time, you will start to find goofs and dislike some things about it. If you watch it once and then again after some time, you will normally like it like the first time, as you will concentrate on the overall movie again and not on the details. Same goes for comics.

A little darker? I thought it was the complete opposite of dark, all the batman comics on sale at the moment are probably darker than this was.

Is anyone else finding Cacaphany to be very subpar and a waste of excitment?

Like, I was expecting Smith to do great things with Batman here. Looking at his track record, his Daredevil stuff was AWSOME his Green Arrow work was really good, but I'm reading Cacophany and I see Smith's sence of humor coming through. It's kind of funny at points, but it's not very interesting. Batman is coming off very...trying to think of how to put it....bland. This is one of the most flavorless Batman (Batmen?) I've read in a while. Smith is heavily focusing more on the Joker than he is Batman it seems.

But again. It is kind of funny. And Smith's use of Maxie Zues has to be a joke in itself. This reads almost like a kind of super hero satire.
