Not sure if we've ever done this before, but do you ever come across someone who pronounces a comic book character or creator name differently than you do, then you realize that you've been wrong all along?

I used to call Hank Pym "Hank (Pie)m" with a long "i." I've been calling him that forever. Then I saw an interview online with Joe Quesada and he calls him "Hank Pim" with a short "i." I honestly never knew that!

I've also heard people call Magneto, "Mag-net-o" rather than "Mag-neat-o" which I actually got right.

Any other pronunciation revelations?

I get this all the time with writers/artists names especially.

Chris Bachalo... I say it like 'batch-a-lo', but some people say it like 'back-a-lo' and I dont know which it is!?

The worst one is Kaare Andrews.. I say it as if its like 'care andrews'... is that how its meant to be said? I mean I can obviously say the Andrews part okay because my surname is also Andrews.

On the Hank Pym thing... Ive always said 'Pym' as if it sounds like the word 'pin' (ya know, as in safety-pin) but with an 'M' not an 'N'.
Ive always pronounced Magneto as if its 'Mag-neat-o'.... isnt that how it is?

Close, but it's actually pronounced Sin-KEV-itch. Here's his official site and he has a logo with the phonetic spelling.

According to the Justice League cartoon and if I remember correctly from the old Super Friends cartoon, it's "Dark-side." That is funny about Seidman, because when looking at that, I would totally call him "seed-man."

Romita is an Italian last name. In Italy the i always sound like "EE". Also the "CH" has a "K" sound.
David Mazzuchelli is "MAZ-ZOO-KEL-LEE". Also, unlike English, the double consonant is pronounced. So not "MAZ-OO-KELEE" but "MAZ-ZOO-KEL-LEE".

Pat, if you're refering to the baseball player, that's definitely the correct pronuciation. He's from Maryland and his Dad, was (maybe still is?) a manager at the company I work for.

I also know that often times people with the same spelling for names pronounce them differently. There's lots of reasons for that. I think the same is true of Character's names. I've heard interviews with different people in the comic business who pronounced the same character's name in different ways. Darkseid and Rha's Al Ghul both come to mind. Is it Rahs or Raysh? I've heard both.

As for Darkseid, let me throw one more item into the question. In English, it's i before e except after c, or when sounding like A, in which case Darkseid could be pronounced Darksayd.
