Ok the other day a friend and I got into a deep conversation about the Watchmen movie.

So what were your opinions on it?

I personaly loved it, it stuck with the comic great. They didn't explain Bubastis, it was like "Hey look big cat...aw its dead...:-(" to anyone who hadn't read the comics.
She, who never read the comic, said it was boring and confusing. Well my girlfriend never read it and understood most of it. Just saying

Im sure we discussed the living fuck out of this topic somewhere else. regardless.

I thought it was okay, it was never going to be as good as the original comic.
I don't think it ruined the Watchmen legacy, but I don't think it honoured it very well either.
I think it's the kind of movie which will be forgotten over time, and the book will live on forever being regarded as a work of art.
The movie was so so. It was entertaining, I'll give it that.

Details..
1. It relied far to heavily on dialogue from the comic, which made it thick with cheese throughout. Not a huge problem, just made it awkward in places.
2. They overpowered Rorschach. He cannot run up walls. Period.
3. The sex scene was too long-winded, to the point of it being awkward to sit through and watch. We got the point, they're having sex, no big deal, you don't need to scar our minds with such overexpose. Plus the music they played over the top of the sex scene was a complete fucking joke. I don't even know if it was meant to be as stupid as it sounded/looked.
4. The soundtrack was a bit weird.. it fitted in with the era the movie was set in. Bob Dylan, Hendrix.. but otherwise, those were odd choices for a soundtrack. The only one which worked was 'The Times They Are-a Changin' by Bob Dylan over the beginning montage.

Loved, loved, loved the movie. Cast was perfect, visuals were perfect, music was perfect. Glad Snyder left out the Black Freighter crap among other things. Liked the movie ending better than Alan Moore's ending, glad there was no dumbass giant squid. Its up there with The Dark Knight & Sin City for me. 10/10

Haven't seen it yet, but I hated Sin City. If Watchmen sticks as close to the comic as Sin City did.. I can understand why it might blow.

Here's a hint fanboys & hollywood: COMIC BOOK DIALOGUE DOES NOT TRANSLATE WELL TO LIVE ACTION MOVIES!!!!

I don't care how good of an actor you are, you can't make Filet mignon out of a block of cheese.

With that being said, it's not that I didn't think that Sin City wasn't entertaining. I'm still looking forward to seeing The Watchmen as I thoroughly enjoyed the graphic novel. The character of Doctor Manhatten is absolutely fascinating to me, as are the many layers to the Night Owl character. Yes, the giant squid thing was rediculous, but the message was there none the less. You can almost see Ozy's point.

Each character in Watchmen walks a grey line and that's what I love about it.

I thought it was an awesome movie. Was never that much of a fan of the book, sort of over rated and boring. BUt they really made an awesome movie. THe visuals are great and it was altogether an awesome looking film. The story really took the good points of the book and translated them well, as well as dumping all the extra info you only vare about if your reading it.
I thought the fights where great and the only point I ever got bored during the movie was when Dr Manhattan came on. he IMO was just super boring and really told the side of the story I couldnt care less about.

Im glad they changed the charcters up a bit also cause If it was exactly like the book, Im sure it would have failed at the movies. The way the incorporated the soundtrack really did wonders for the film aswell, using the greatst tracks for the right times.

I enjoyed the movie, and the soundtrack was a throw back for me, being one of the older (but not the oldest) member of CCL.
BTW, the sex scene was overdone intentionally to show the difference in his ability. As the hero, almost insatiable, as the alter ego, impotent. A gratuitous, yet obvious, way to underscore the subtext of the situation.

Back when it was first published, there weren't many mainstream comics without a CCA Approval, nevermind geared for a mature audience as a complete title. The recommendations/praises it gets aren't because it is necessarily the best book of it's type, it's because it was the first to deal strictly with the psychological and sociological dilemnas involved in a world with "super-heroes". Naturally, building upon this, there have been better since, as well as incorporating these themes into established characters/titles. So, remember that most of these recommendations/praises take into consideration the context of when it was written, and the influence it has had since on the evolution of the main stream of the hobby.

Nicely said. I guess I would view it different if I had been old enough to appreciate it when it came out in 1986 (I was in 1st grade, 30 now) I guess I've read so many other books, that Watchmen just kinda fell flat. Its expected though, most things lose their pop in 23 years because "the times they are a changing."

See what I did thar?&:o) :-d

I guess for me, whenever someone talks Watchmen, I will always think of the movie first. You know, despite what Alan Moore thinks of the movie and not wanting to be a part of it. This movie has given him a whole new generation of fans as evidenced by sales of the TPB's of this novel.

I just hope he appreciates that, if nothing else.
