I actually found myself leafing through some DC titles at my LCS yesterday. When I realized what I was doing I broke out in a cold sweat and looked around nervously to see if anyone had noticed.

Thanks to a lot of the feedback here I CCL I have had my eyes opened to some great stories.

I may even buy a DC title............for curiosity sake of course!

Has CCL had a similar effect on anyone else?

Interesting question. What I have done is pick up comics I may not have done previously due to a recommendation on the forums. It hasn't dramatically changed my buying habits as much as my reading habits - my unread stack of books lasts for longer as I'm spending time on CCL. A couple months back I was submitting loads of change requests pretty much daily. I suddenly realised I'd stopped reading comics, so I stopped submitting. I've sent a handful of things through since, but nowhere near like where I was before. Hats off to submitters like jwsimms and Batman007, their submission rate is astonishing!

Yeah, it somewhat changed my habits. When I'm putting my books into the system, I see a bunch of issues I need and end up making a list to bring with me to the LCS. It's cool too to see what everybody suggests so I can follow some new books.

It's helped me organize my books and piqued my interest in books that I normally wouldn't like. Also, it has introduced me to some great collectors that have generated some good discussion with me (even negativity can be constructive) and have challenged me to research more on books and to keep up to date on what's out there in the comic book market.
CCL has really juiced me about comics again when I had become seriously jaded with the industry in general.

Love this post! CCL is helping me to fill up holes in my collection that I didn’t even know I had. It has increased my spending habit by at least double every month.

I love the program, but I really love the fact that you guys love it! We are just getting started! We have barely touched the surface of what we want to do here. Just wait till you see some of the systems that we will be putting in place over the next few months to help build this community, as well as introduce fans to new shops that can help them enjoy this great culture!

Sorry, the marketing came out for a minute there. CCL has helped me with story lines, and with understanding how issue runs have evolved and changed over the years. It has helped me enjoy reading some of the various story lines. I used to be a Marvel only fan, but am now enjoying many of the DC titles as well as Marvel.

The negatives of CCL for me is it is that the program is causing my hair to go gray. Also, I have had to work 12 hours a day since we thought of this program, and my entire staff runs to the comic book shop on Wednesday’s instead of working. Other than those things it is all good!

Actually, I just started collecting comics again, yeasterday as a matter of fact. I went to my local comic store the first time yesterday and I bought some comics, old and new. Comic Collector Live is what I think is gonna keep me collecting. With the organizing system it has. I am now devoting alot of cash to collect comics. I am trying to finish the following series now:
World War Hulk (Prologue and issue 1)
52(Week one and two)
Batman Journey into Knight (Issue 1+2)
I will probably finish off batman in my next visit to the shop. I love comics now!

Just organizing and cataloging my collection has changed my routines. Now, once I've read new issues, I enter them into the CCL software. It's cut down on my buying second (or third) copies of recent issues, and has allowed me to better target my back issue purchases. I no long have to hunt through several boxes to figue out if I already have an issue or not.

Plus the board community here is pretty darn good. Between the regular posters and the responsiveness of CCL employees, it's certainly one of the better run boards around, with qualoty posters.

I hear ya. I try not to buy into the whole variant thing but I am a complete sucker for the Thor variants. Getting back on topic, CCL has helped me immensely by enabling me to catalog my collection. I've been waiting for a program like this for many years now. It also has allowed me to open my own comic store, a life-long dream of mine. Of course, I can't afford a REAL store complete with the whole comic book environment thing going on but having an online store is very gratifying. It'd be nice if I'd get a few more sales, though lol.
Lastly, I thoroughly enjoy browsing the forums and discussing all things comics with like-minded individuals who share my passion for this medium.
CCL is one of the best things since sliced bread. I've even recommended it on my Myspace page and set up a link to it and my store on my eBay listings(user ID: ZOMBIENAUT, in case anyone wants to take a peek at my comic auctions). It took quite a while to get CCL running properly but it was WELL worth the wait. Now, off to find those remaining two Thor variants. I'm so ashamed...

One of the biggest changes in my collecting routine has been that I've been forced to rethink my grading process. One tends to become a bit loose and free when one is sentimental over his collection, but once that collection is put on the open market, the loose and free attitude finds itself turned rather critical. I find myself looking at a book now as if it were my money being invested, and what would my opinion of that blunted corner be? And as said, I tend to be a bit more critical of the overall appearance of the book, and try not to be so conservative on grading an issue.

Both my wife and I have gotten back into comics, partly due to CCL. I am 40-ish and had stopped collecting years ago. (Although I kept all of my comics, thankfully!) My wife really likes how she can track issues and titles, etc. She loves the Indies, and I think CCL has encouraged her to try some new titles. My problem now, is entering ALL of my comics in!

It has affected the way I collect now. I see what other people are collecting and what I am missing out on. I also now try to find varient covers. Ever since I started putting my collection in CCL I have actually found some issues that I thought I had but don,t. I also have started collecting a lot of the DC titles that I usually don't look at, especially with the current 52 arc. I had to go and pick up the first few issues. I also find myself leafing through some of my older books again that I haven't checked out in a while. I also find that I pick up some of the recommended titles just out of curiousity. it won't be long and I will start to put up some of my extra books up for sale.

You, jaded? No Way!! lol

Seriously, if you'd told me before CCL came along that I'd be in an online forum chatting with others about comics, I would have called you crazy. I thoroughly enjoy the community, the sharing of information, the helpful CCL staff & the posters, and especially the various...well, lets just call them "spirited" debates!
I don't know that CCL has changed my habits, but it has pushed me to finally catalog the comics I still own. I sold and gave away three quarters of my collection before moving to SoCal, and only had a vague idea of what I still owned. Seeing an ad for CCL I joined and have begun cataloging the four long boxes of comics.

Reading comments by some other folks I have also begun buying comics again, after stopping about two and a half years ago.

Once I know what I have I'm sure I'll try to use the sales here to fill in the gaps.

Well, I've only been a member for a day and a half now, so my habit has not changed much (see: at all) yet.

Now, the time I spend online? That has changed significantly in the last couple of days. When and where I am online has shifted more toward this forum (at the expense of my fantasy football teams I might add) and bouncing back and forth between entering my collection (about 20 at a time) and checking responses here to things I've posted about.

There are so many topics here, it will take me weeks just to look in on all them and who knows how long to actually contribute to any of them.

Anyway, I'll report back if and when I notice a change in comic buying.

Great question. AnswerS: 1) I was killing myself trying to create a DB to track my out-of-control collection that recently began growing again. I had tried or looked at various DBs but everyone wanted you to work online and I want my collection all to myself. Dead line or live line, I want to use it. 2) Then CCL came along and not only have you guys accepted my scans (my biggest problem) but I cannot figure out how you created the MASSIVE online DB you have! All those covers!!! Unbelievable! 3) And how did it change me directly? I am scanning and scanning and scanning, endless scannings! Then renaming the base scans, then importing to the DB. Then watching as my scans match (or mismatch) the DB's scans. (This has saved me from several mistakes!)

By my count, when I get done with everything (current), I will probably have 300+ Gigs of native scans, your Database taking up another 150 Gigs and I'll have a happy smile on my face as they bury me after my death from exhaustion ... Glad that I finally got everything into the system.

Of course I'm hoping Lady Death will send me back to life so I can get the latest issues of my favorites!

4) And finally, I am actually thinking of offering some of my doubles and other items to the CCL users if they are looking for that missing issue. This was something I never, EVER considered doing in the past. A simple Opps! and just keep both issues. But now I think I may have things others may want to enjoy as much as I have.

I apologies at the length of this reply but frankly CCL's depth and broad stroke satisfaction of my needs is simply overwhelming and is one of the best tasked programs I have ever encountered.

Well, back to my scanning! Only (est.) 3500 to go! (Thus far!)

Thanks! ~~ FVK

It has definitely made me more precise in my collecting. It allows me to see what variants I'm missing that I didn't know about. It allows me to see gaps that I would otherwise miss in my runs. It allows me to track how much I paid for a particular book and therefore be in a better position when/if I choose to sell. It allows me to be specific to what I want via the wish list and in doing so helps me to connect to vendors that have the books I want.

But mostly, it gives me some great software to organize my collection in a way that just wasn't conveniently possible before and thats the most important thing to me!

I still like going to the LCS from time to time to pick up supplies and browse the books but I definitely do the majority of my comic purchasing online now-a-days (especially since I've picked up an internet subscription service).

When I started it was for the fact that I tried to maintain a check list on a home made db, but it was not working out. So once I got my titles added, then graded their condition I thought I was done. Well now the fact is I have filled gaps in my main titles and have realy gotten fixed to put all my comics in the system! Now when I get a book I end up reading it that day and running through the process of adding it to the db if needed. I had books that I didn't even care about, I just put them away with no order or filing system at all. Now every book has it's place and I found out I had about 1000 more then I thought! I even started to look at their value (not important before) only to find out I missed some key issues by like 3 issues after I stoped buy the title. Mainly I find myself going through my books with a fine tooth comb, and putting as much info as I can into CCL, I even look for scans to fill holes in the db. I also have found extra issues to sell & unwanted issues that can go too. The only drawback if that I started to enter price paid , and it was way more then I thought it was! So I have to justify my spending to myself ( I tell my gf it's half of what it is) and she thinks it's to much. I am also well know by the post office. Overall I am more avid about collecting then ever before!

For the past five years or so, my travel/work schedule and lack of a nearby LCS caused my collecting habits to go on autopilot. I'd get a monthly box of new issues, pull a couple to read, and stow the rest. I was pretty much disinterested in what was going on in general.

I finally got a break from travel, and started looking at software to catalog the thousands of issues I'd built up. I found CCL, and the rest is history!

I'd planned on just organizing my collection; little did I know that would take six months AND that I'd spend hours per day and entire weekends submitting Change Requests and goofing around on the forums.

I've filled lots of holes in my collection (some issues I've been looking for for years, plus holes I didn't know I had) and made some great online friends. I'm more excited about the comics scene than I've been in years!

I agree, I have a pretty decent example too:

I was browsing at my LCS and found the 01' Green Arrow Vol. 2 series. The first issue alone was 14.99. I found CCL Saturday night, found a lot of issues 1-15, all NM+ for 7.50.

CCL is good and should be expanded to cover books as well. It would help many to organize their book collection as well, especially in the scifi and fantasy fields with multiple volumes and favorite authors. Would CCL explore this possibility and encourage stores to add softcover to their collections for sale?
I've only been here a few days and I can tell I'll be ordering a lot of back issues from CCL. I still want to support my LCS, but I've noticed I can find nearly anything I'm looking for. At a great price too.

Also, just reading threads on different characters I've never been into has got me looking at new stories.

Needless to say, I'm glad I found this place
Do what I do, buy all your comics on CCL and use the LCS to buy your bags and boards.

They'll eventually get curious as to why you buy some many supplies but no comics.

I would have to say that CCL has really helped me with back issue buying. The LCS I have a folder with doesn't do much in the way of back issues, and what little they have no organization and requires a lot of work with very little result. Since CCL I buy nearly every back issue on CCL. The wishlist makes it easy to go store to store and see who has what your looking for at what price. It takes very little time and I feel I always get the best bang for the buck this way.

I am picking up a lot more back issues than I used to. I love that when you are shopping you can look for bundled lots. I admit that the lazy person in me likes how I can just one click and get a full or partial run of a book that I am looking for. Being up in the sticks and only having a small LCS CCL makes it so much easier for me to track down back issues. Before if my LCS did not have them I would have to make a 3 hour drive to Syracuse to go through back issues or order them from some place like visioncomix. I find the deals on here so much better and it has helped my grown my collection at a much faster rate. I am also organized now more than I have ever been. =d>

I heard all these great things about "Chew" (Image Comics), but try as I might through my LCS, I couldn't get the back issues #1-5. I despaired at being able to get them until I did a search on CCL. And lo and behold, there were all five issues - and for just $2.40 each. Woo-hoo!!! I now have my Chew issues and am very happy. Can't wait to search for other issues that I have been missing in my collection.

for me CCL has changed my collectiong habits because a year ago before I joined I had thought of quitting.Due to the prices inflating,2 kids and a very bad disorder I was about to sell my comic collection(which is my third as one was stolen and the other lost in a move).
Now I have CCL where I can spend alot less money and get alot more books.Granted I am basically a year behind.Just now getting into the Siege story line.but I took most of 09 off from collecting and I am a completest.I have to have everything to a story...
with some great sellers I have gotten caught up somewhat.and found some back issues I have once owned or never had.
I do need to find a shop for fear itself tho.I am intrigued in that but I got to find one who will work with my limited income.

but I say thank you to all the sellers I have bought from and the ones I have yet to.In over a year have only had one bad experience.

I'm one of the oldest members here and I haven't posted on this thread yet, shame on me.

I should have, because CCL is a godsend for a lifelong comic collector like myself. Before having this, I used Excel. Anyone that has used Excel knows how crappy that can be with a large collection.

In the 90s before I had a computer I just had a notepad and paper to keep track of my collection and that was complete chaos. I'd start in alphabetical order, but then I'd continually get new comics, and eventually have to redo the whole thing to keep track of it all. Pain in the butt. I even used to buy doubles of comics I already had.

Now with CCL it's easy as pie. My collection is easily maintained. I never buy doubles anymore. And I've learned more about comics in the last 5 years than the 20 years before just by being a member of the active message boards and by searching through the INCREDIBLE library of comic information that the software provides. And I love the wishlist option. I keep myself entertained at times just looking through the library and finding stuff that looks cool then adding it to my wishlist.

And the marketplace is great to boot. I'd say 85% of the time I'm buying back-issues I'm buying them through CCL stores like Alpha Comics and Brett's Comic Pile. I still go to the local shop for weeklies, though, sorry guys, online just can't beat that experience. The smell of the shop, seeing the cool posters, promos, and action figures that came out. Talking about the big story that week with the guy at the register. Seeing the new comics you didn't know about on the stands. It can't be beat electronically, yet.

And of course the community. The very active, very friendly, and very knowledgable CCL community can't be beat anywhere on the web. This is the #1 place for me to discuss the latest going-ons in comics and other geekiness.

Poetry =d>

CCL has changed my collecting habits in SOOOOO many ways.

I am much more likely to expand out of my comfort zone on different products because of community suggestion on titles.

The CCL Application is a MUST HAVE when I go to the comic shop now.

"Do you have a copy of "THIS" variant?" *Holds up the app*

The App has also made me a much more informed buyer, as I can compare prices instantly with people who KNOW comics.

The software is easy to use. It's also easy to explain to people who aren't tech-savvy.

Oh. AND I buy more comics...which might be the biggest thing.

When I see and hear more people buying comics, that gets me excited about what I collect as well...and I have to have COMPLETE collections.

Since I've worked here, I've been working towards complete w/variant sets of X-FILES, HULK (VOL 2) and IDW TRANSFORMERS. Some I have, some I haven't, but I've been able to hone and be "in control" of my collection instead of it controlling me.

All in all, a VERY powerful little site with ALOT of power to put in the hands of comic collectors. That's why I support it and love it so much.

For me, CCL has been primarily about organization. I have a great local source for comics, so I don't do a lot of buying, but the power to find and organize all the issues I have collected has been tremendous. On those rare occasions when I do need something, it is tremendously easy to find.

I have talked up CCL to comics shop owners I know because I want them to spread the word! I watch those subsriber numbers climb every day and I know it is because they have seen the power of the system just as I did over four years ago! Great job, guys!

Honestly, no. The software automatically searches through every item for additions, changes, corrections and what not...hence the "live" part of our name. The size of your catalog as well as the frequency of opening the software will play a part in this as well.

One thing I've found a little helpful is to remove any cover titles you're not using, so the software won't waste its' time looking for updates there. Also, I boot up at least once a day.

I add and remove titles often because of change requests and stuff, but yeah, if you have a HUGE library, whiddling away at it is probably the best thing for ya. Make sure you don't have any issues IN the title you delete, too. That might help, man.

If I am going to buy a comic that is on my check list I have to buy a couple more to make the purchase worth while. Once and a while I will get lucky and the dealer who will have a couple of comics on my check list. Which means I will be reading comics that I would not usaly buy. Which is alright because the majority of the comics I can find are only a couple of bucks.

Then this past saturday I got on here and started looking over the sellers stuff =p~. I think my Ebay days are done \:d/. I filled in some holes in my Incredible Hulk set and finished off one of my Hawkman sets. I think it will change my monthly pickup habits as well. The prices here are so much better on the average. I don't think I'll save much cash but I'll get bigger stacks of new books to read for the same money.

CCL is the ultimate void filler. I love digging through my LCS (there are several good stores in my area) since they've always got fresh inventory on back issues and their prices are very reasonable. It's one of those places I can stop by week to week and always find something I need. Sure, with CCL I don't need to go to my LCS, but there's still a great deal of excitement involved when sifting through a fresh chunk of bright white boards.

I'd say my money is pretty evenly split between CCL and my LCS. Before CCL I was using Lone Star almost exclusively for my online shopping. I'm so glad to have cut the cord with that company.

Lol. Same here.

Like a lot of others. I have also spent less for issues rather than buying from places like Ebay. Meaning my dollars have gone a lot farther. So I end up buying more comics. Who doesn't want that?

-collecting as a couple don't have to like the same things just make it something you do together
-finding a tv series you like/get netflix

I've been bouncing in and out of the back issue buying addiction for several years now. One thing I can say about CCL is that it is a great place to find back issues cheap (especially since there are no shops anywhere near where we live). Cheaper prices have allowed me to sample and get hooked on books I'd never pay full price for.

It also makes it easier for me to pick and choose which issues I will read and which are x-over tie ins I may wish to skip.I don't have the software but it sure is nice to use this site to help with that.

It's true. Your money does goes farther on CCL. Unfortunately a lot of my LCBS in my area mark up their books to a point where I refuse to pay what they are asking. Don't get me wrong. I know they are trying to make a buck but if you can get it for less somewhere else. It's a no brainer. You buy elsewhere.

How has CCL changed my collecting habits? Well, I hadn't collected in a very long time, probably a good 10-12 years. I was on vacation and went into a lcs where i was staying and browsed the dollar bins and found a few things i had always liked to have. So i got the bug. One of the lcs in my area was WAY over priced for things that I had found cheaper at that store on vacation, A friend had mentioned ccl to me and i went browsing immediately. to this date i think i have 14 orders ranging from new to mostly back issues that I never thought Id find, but really great prices. I am very glad i found this site!

We're all to blame, really.

It's always interesting how posts discussing how dead the boards are usually will garner some discussion and activity, but actual topics for conversation usually go ignored with no interaction, when they get started at all.

Perhaps if the ability to post pictures here were made easier, that would encourage more topics being formulated. But that would require a site update, and, well.....

I've tried my best but when I spend an hour or so crafting something and then only get one or two responses then it gets discouraging.

If nothing else, all of the awesome television shows and movies that we have right now should provide enough fodder for discussion topics.

I think that way back when this site was "free", and members were contributing to the site (basically they were the elves generating all the information), some of which were putting huge hours into the catalogs, were the glory days. Members were putting in all the info, and in return we got software that we could catalog all our comics. It was a reciprocal relationship that as members, we felt invested in/owners of this product. We weren't really, but it felt that way. Then the day it changed to a subscription based thing changed everything. Many people felt slighted/used. Personally, I didn't add that much to the software, but I was always on the forums daily. From then on, between that and the software never getting updated/fixed like it should, it drove members away from the site en masse, myself included. This was one of the best forum communities I've ever been on, but there is much better cataloging software.

I'm not sure making CCL a paid service started the decline. Aren't all the other collecting apps charging a fee?

The other collecting apps were subscription based from the start as far as I know. I use CLZ now, and have paid for that from the start. Comic Collector Live was free from the start. Was touted as free, and was free while all the users (most) were doing all the scanning and inputting of the covers and basically being the free labor to grow the database. Then all of a sudden it became something that needed to be paid for, and to continue to add new comics into the software you had to pay. Not cool. Many people bailed, and the forums died. I was there, I remember it well.
