I get most of my comics via Mailordercomics.com, but still have a very small pull-list at the local comic shop. I also go to the LCS to browse new titles I might have missed for my order online, and to check out books that looked interesting, but I didn't want to spend money on sight-unseen. I would buy all of my books at the LCS, but I just can't afford to with the size of my habit!!!

Yeah, it's a little bit of both for me, too. Like, if I see an article about something that looks interesting and it's already out or it's too late to put it in my Previews order... it's off to the local shop! (Actually, I'm pretty lucky 'cause there's like 7 comic book shops within 10 miles; it's a little slice of heaven.)

Like most people I use the local comic shop. I also go to a not-so-local comic shop in the next city, but it is probably the best comic shop in the world. I buy from other shops too, especially if I miss something from my main haunts. Unlike most, I also subscribe by mail to 2000 AD & Judge Dredd Megazine: I was missing so many weekly issues that it was the best option. And every Monday there's a comic book waiting for me when I get home from work :d/

No all three option? I mostly buy online, but go to one of the two local shops in town at least once a month. I get a handful of subscriptions through Mile High's NICE program - don't know if you'd count that as online or mail subscriptions.

There aren't many things in life that can compare to walking into a comic shop and smelling the old paper and looking at that issue of The Avengers #4 every time you walk in saying "Some day I will buy that"...and talking to the clerk/owner.....seeing the figures....checking out whats new. Nothing compares.

I buy all my new books from the local shop. Besides, I like to go there and hang out to talk about all the things going on in the comic world. I order back issues off of websites and make attempts at books on ebay, but ebay can be annoying when you lose by $.50 to some jerk who waited until the last minute (literally) to bid!!!!#-o

It's great to support a local shop but only if they can provide the service. Two shops in my city, one an independant and one part of a chain. When I moved here it felt right to go with the Indie but the place was so cramped, expensive and unfriendly I placed my picklist with the chain who were a much more friendly bunch. Unfortunately they kept missing things off my picklist - never the same comic either - week in, week out. It was unusual if I didn't find something missing from my list that wasn't on general display. So now I get most of my comics through the mail as they never miss any issues. okay, I can't choose which cover I'll get (but I'm one of those odd chaps who buy comics based on what they contain inside the covers anyway so no big deal) and I get 25% off the total cost of the books in the bargain, which saved me £25/$45. Result!

I buy all my new comics at my local Comic Shop. It's just quicker to get em that way and my shop, like most, gives me a 10% discount on all comics I put on my pull-list. I can even use the Preview order form to use as my pull-list every week! I just fill out what I want and he puts it all in my box for me, it's great! But for back-issues, I go online. I go to the Mile High Comics EBay store for em. No matter how many you buy, 1 or 200, the S&H is only $1.95 to anywhere in the U.S., and the prices are awesome, I get most issues anywhere from $0.50-$2.00. -Nate-

I'm all about going to the local shop to buy my comics. I check midtowncomics.com to see what is coming out every Wednesday. They always put up the list on Saturdays for the next Wednesday release. It gets me pumped to go to the shop, and I always know what to expect.

I get all mine from a local comic shop, but through the mail? I did subscribe to my local store for many many years. Well, I moved every couple of years, but always found a store near me to support. Then I had a question once and "googled" it. That lead me to a web site message board. It was for a small store in Memphis. They had a sale one weekend and I commented on how it was too bad I couldn't make (since it's about 18 hours from here). They said they would give me the discount on ANY book. I asked my local store if he would give me ANY discount? He would not. So I switched. I get my books every other week. The discount makes up for shipping (I still save 5-10% depending on how many titles I get). I miss browsing myself, but I suppose it keeps me wealthier. It's a real store that I am supporting, just not my local one.

When I lived in chicago I used to get mine at Graham Crackers but I moved to a smaller town in IL. and there aren't any shops around here but luckily Graham Crackers has an online mail order so now I just get mine from there and it still makes me a loyal customer to their shop. Although if I do need back issues theres another website called demolitioncomics.com, they have a pretty big selection too

Ralphs Comic Corner in Ventura for all current stuff and for back issues i'll go to Mile high comics, midtown comics, or lone star comics i think is what it is, and for my trades i get those threw Amazon cause they are all like 30-37% of and that makes a huge diffrence when getting something like the marvel omnibus or absolute dc books.

Like most it appears, I frequent the LCS. It's been called the best shop on the Atlantic coast, and it's easy to see why. Contributors to this forum from Massachusetts probably know what store I mean. The back issue selection is unbelievable. And I agree with the person who described the experience: the wafting scent of old paper, the feeling you get knowing you could spend hours looking for that special issue... love it.

I like most on here, get mine from the local shop. Only one within about 100 miles or so, but still high quality. I've checked out getting direct subs from Marvel and DC, but have found that not everything is available on-line. Besides, can't beat going to the store!!

I totally agree with the comment about going into a store and smelling the books. I love to read everything. If it has words, I'm all over it. I get all my titles from a local store: Ground Zero Comics in Omaha. Of course, I work there so where else would I go? *lol* Even if I didn't I'd have to say we're the friendlyist in town. And the discounts, thank the gods for that, I have over 60 titles on my pull.

All-American Comics in Evergreen Park, Illinois is my shop to go. I help out there from time to time and get a nice % to boot! My comic dealer is one of the remaining few in our area that actually still loves the industry while others around us are still bitter at losing most of their shirts in the 90s implosion. I love the place and wouldn't think of going anywhere else for news, friends, atmosphere and old-time comic collecting. =d>

I have just started collecting again, as a hobby that my 5 year old son and I can both enjoy. We don't really have any close shops, so I researched online stores a lot, and finally settled on badgercomics.com. 40% most comic books (preorders) and 20% off recent issues. Not much backstock, other than the last few issues of most Marvel, DC, and top indies. But great for new comics. Shipping is very reasonable as well.

The past 2 years (since I started buying again), I get most of my stuff from Laughing Ogre in Columbus. They were recently bought out by Phoenix Comics, and I really cleaned up when they were liquidating all their old stock to make room for the new stuff. The store is now expanded and better than ever. The people there are super-friendly and helpful; most of their back issues are quite reasonably priced; and I get 10% off everything as long as I keep 10 books on my pull list! The selection is the best I've seen anywhere, plus they have a crapload of toys, statues, etc (as if I could afford any of that stuff in addition to my monthly addiction). I keep meaning to cut back on what I spend on comics, but whenever I walk in there I can't help myself... I DEFINITELY agree with the whole thing about going to the shop and seeing all that stuff firsthand, and interacting with other people who are into this stuff. Sometimes I think that's half the reason I got back into collecting- just to have a reason to go to the comic shop! Plus, it's cool to support your local shops; it keeps the whole industry alive!

Hey Guys, I get alot of my comics off of ebay. I know you take a chance sometimes, I have had times when I went to buy two copies of Ultimate Spiderman #1, the guy never had them I had to get copies of the money order and all that, fortunely I got my money back. I get all of my current issues from a newsstand in State College Pa. I've been looking at back issues at bedrockcity.com, they seem like nice guys, and are pretty helpful. I go to Freetime Comics, a lil'brick & mortar place, though they do have a website. For back issues, I will usually wait for a sale. There are a bunch of comic shops in the Denver area. Usually pretty easy to find a deal unless the book you want is super hot.

How lucky you are to have so many comics shop in your respective city. In my poor little french city, I can't buy any comics except the french publication (magazines wich collect 2 or 4 issues for example a mix beetween New Avengers/Fantastic Four/Captain America/Young Avengers for Marvel or JLA/Flash/Green Lantern/Teen Titans). Ok these monthly magazines are cheaper than buying all the issues individualy (4€50 for a magazine) but the biggest problem is the delay: for example, in France Civil War has begun last month and Infinite Crisis will finish next month... That's why I buy comics with online subscriptions (marvel) or by the website from a comic-book store in Paris. (there are some in the City of light !)

I use a combination of three: I buy current stuff both online at MidTown Comics (they discount the cover price and bag/board each issue) and frequent a local comic shop. I would get all my stuff there, but find that he doesnt order everything I want, and I often miss the boat on issues (EVEN THOUGH I GO EVERY WEDNESDAY @ 5:00 PM!!!!) I would love the local shop to be better, but it is mainly focused on gaming (Yugio and such) I also used to ebay a lot. I find that Mile High Comics offers a LOT of recent back issues at reduced prices, and have bought there a handful of times. Good service from each.

When I was in college I shopped at a Keith's Comics store (a branch off the main store), and I liked that one a lot better. But I moved when I graduated and the closest was Lonestar. For a small company they handle themselves pretty well. I have a subscription service with them, which is fantastic, as I don't have to worry about forgetting comics, or comics selling out before I'm able to get there, etc. Plus I can also put my manga, action figures, and whatever else I want onto my sub as well. And I get 10% off of what's in my sub.

I get mine in a couple of places. There are two local comic shops near by being Lonestar Comics and Madness. Most graphic novels/TPB I can just get from like Barnes and Noble or Borders. Ebay can be a good source, sometimes you can find some good deals on lots.

Since 99% of my comics were bought between '88 and '93, I rarely pick up a comic nowadays. I always look for Wolverine though in our local News Store, scoring a hit and miss more often than not. But when I did live in the Big City (Edmonton, AB), I always went to the local comic shop. They knew me by name, what I liked, and what I might like. Great bunch of guys and girls. The place is still open too albeit under different management. WARP ONE still rules!!

[b][/b][i][/i][color=darkblue][/color][size=6][/size] I stick mainly to the Local Store for all my "In-Box" stuff and Pull stuff off the shelf once a week. I have a hard time with variants. My Local gets them but I seem to not be able to get there in time for them and the same thing with incentives, so I have to travel out of town to about three other places that I know that usually carries incentives. I do a lot of Ebay purchasing for back titles or variants that none of the Shops around here seem to have been able to keep on the shelves long enough for me to catch. I bought some books a while back from Wizard that I didn't think my local was going to have because Wizard made it sound like the "B" cover was going to be rare only to find at the Local Store it was a 50-50 print and the clerk made sure I had two of each cover. Still, I liked Wizard because I could see what was coming up ahead of time and could purchase books on a pre-order basis. When I finally got around to using this option, I pre-ordered all the JSA Classified with Power-Girl on the 1st issue which I think had three differant covers and purchased two each of each cover. Make a long story short..., my bill came to 45 dollars. When those books were suppose to be shipped they weren't. It took two more months for me to finally contact someone through emailing and they finally told me ALL books I pre-ordered were sold out. They offered to settle with something of my choice for the same amount of money. Well..., how mad was I that now not only was I behind in my JSA Classified titles and couldn't get the variants anywhere, was way more than I could explain and told them just refund my money. They refunded me 12 dollars. Emailing them was useless about this matter so I vowed to never purchase from them again and usually only referance the site every now and then to see what variant covers are coming out if I remember that they exist. I have other ON-line sites that I have on my tool bar but have yet to use them....Just leary about the quality of books being shipped through the mail.....yeah, yeah I know....have more to be leary about Ebay sellers than I do On-Line sites, but I already have it in my head that I'm purchasing books that could be a little less than top grade anyway.

My LCS is pretty decent. They let me share a pull box with a buddy I brought to them, so between us we get a 25% discount (this stores max) Their discount applies to most things in the shop, even back issues. I think the wall books / show stock and trades dont count for the discount however.. Bags boards boxes.... all fair game. So far I've brought 3 new customers to them so they deal with me pretty fairly. Recently they are on a path to expand and have opened 2 new stores. The deals I used to get are much less frequent. One of the reasons I like going there was that whenever I walk in the door I can talk to somebody who knows something and can cut me a deal. Nothing worse than the lackey behind the counter could care less about what you buy or ask. God help you if you found a back issue you were interested in and had to wait for "so-and-so" to come in and see if the price was firm. These cats are pretty sharp. tho they do tend to puff variants, trendy stuff and phish for buyers speculating on hot hot a coming storyline will be. They even let me return stuff. like if I get a wrong book in my box, or pick up a dupe by accident they'll let me swap it out. In the past I've gotten a Tomb of Dracula 1, AMSP 121, 122 an some other odds and ends at really good deals. But as they expand new stores that happens less frequently. they are pretty decent guys.

I get mine from a mail order company that is also wonderfully close to where I live in the UK. They are Reed Comics (www.reedcomics.com) who ship in from the states and ship out worldwide. Their website is great, nicely laid out,easy to navigate etc. The best thing for me is that I can also visit once a month to pick up my orders. It's a great friendly service (brilliant coffee) and they LOVE to talk comics, films etc. I spend a good couple of hours there each time and have been turned on to loads of stuff that I would not normally have read. They also run a small indie publishing company (Full Cirkle) and their new project 'Springheeled JacK' is BRILLIANT. They are well worth checking out.

I used to buy online, but now that have found the local comic book shop, I don't go anywhere else. They give me a 10% discount on everything in the store with the purchase of a $20 membership. That may sound like a lot to some, but I assure you the discount paid for it after my second visit. If your in Southern Cali visit Metropolis Comics in Bellflower. It rocks and all of the folks who work there are really nice. I would hope that more people would support their local comic book shop. Not only do you get great deals, but you also find others in the real world that share your same interest. Its like your mom always said, "Go you might meet someone."

I pick up all my comics from a great little shop in Manchester, CT. I go every sunday with my girlfriend. The only problem is the place I used to go to whould pull from i dropped off the week eairler. And the next week I would get every issue I ordered. The problem was, he was more interested in sports crap. He started ignoring me from time to time and I was a very good customer dropping down at least $80 a week at least. The place I go to now I spend the same but i get about 20 more issues then I used to because the guy who works sunday hooks me up! He also gets me Ghost Rider crap that not many people can find or even know about. I've thought about ordering books online but I orsonally think it takes all the fun out of collecting.

The only reason I went to this place was to try and support the local shop but I guess the help they hire isn't as interested in the shop as I am. Been collecting since the late 80's, right before the hugh growth and also implosion of the speculative comic market and also the comic stores. Before the implosion - had a comic store across the street from where I worked which was great...It closed. When I was in college, there were 2 stores in the small - medium college town. 1 closed while I was in college, the other just closed within the last year but comics were secondary to collectable card games and such. This store was about 45 mins away now so after college I dropped by to say hi and pick a few oddball things. There's a store 30 mins away that I used to go to but haven't been to in over 5 years...no pull lists are done and no discounts and the owner doesn't seem to love comics or the genre, just in it for the money. Another I started visiting is Dr. No's in Kennasaw, Ga. Nice store and good overall selection from comics, toys, cards, roleplaying, etc. But when the store across the street from where I work closed I started using Mile High Comics to get my fix on comics and in the 10 years since I've been having them shipped to me twice a month, they've only made 2 mistakes and they were quickly fixed. Like many have stated, you can't beat going into a comic store run by comic lovers and having a good chat. Tim

where i live we have two LCS. one which my g/f and i have our pull folder(axtion comics) is smaller but the guy ALWAYS holds our stuff.(for 3 months in one case) the other shop is bigger(school of comics) with a much wider selection of back issues and the guy is really cool and knowledgable so we don't really have any complaints. what we have started doing though is traveling to comic shops....we just spent some time in Destin, FL and found a place called TBS comics. OMG! they had several thousand titles on their $1.oo rack that i could not believe were there, i finished some series, started some new and got quite a few #1's that were on my watch list on ebay for three times as much. traveling for comics is like an adventure....a treasure hunt actually! all who can should do it. it's a blast.

I live in Winnipeg and when I first started collecting comics, there were 3 that I went to quite abit. The most often was Styx which was like a 15 minute walk from school. There were 2 downtown, Comic World and Comic Factory 2. The ones downtown eventually closed down and Stxy moved to a further location and changed it's name to Comics America or something like that. For the past 12+ years I've been going to Book Fair downtown. It's on my way to work so it's not a problem. Everyone knows me by name there. Makes going there fun since he lets me look at some of his older sh!t he has.

I get my comics at this little store down the street from where I live...called Silver Cactus Comics...just started going there regularly over the last couple months...the guy running it is a cool cat...hooked me up with a Cap #25 that he came across when going over some leftover books from his other store that shut down...so I was psyched...plus got me a copy of Illuminati #2 which was also pretty cool...and there really is nothing like walking into your LCS after a long work week and inhaling the sweet smell of comic book goodness...the problem a lot of stores have is that the people are either not very knowledgable or not very friendly...luckily I don't have that problem... For the first 21 years of this hobby, I bought my new comics from the local stores, with some brief forays in subscriptions. But about a year and a half ago, I got tired of my then-current local store. For whatever reason, his new comics would come in on Wednesdays some weeks, on Thursdays some weeks, or spread over several days other weeks. It was just a huge pain, because it was out of the way and he didn't have room to do holds. So if I didn't make it on new comic book day, I would be screwed out of my new comics. I finally got tired of the hassle and went with a mail order company. I hated to do it in one sense, because the local owner was a nice guy and always gave my kids a treat of some kind, and would give me some good deals. Now, I'm using DCBS for my new comics, with some occassional trips to another local shop that I found. The bad thing about using a mail order company, is that the discounts are so good, I don't know if I could ever go back to using a store hold, because I'd have to cut my pull list by more than half.

I get my new releases from my local comic shop and some of my older list items. But as far as online shopping I deal with Lone Star Comics. They have great discounts, free shipping past $50.00 and they also buy comics. Store credit or cash are your options. Ebay is also good to look for issues, but you have to know your books and prices, lots of people trying to sell books misleading you or are way over priced. My favorite misleading sellers are ones that try to tell you they are selling older X-men books but are actually from the Classic X-Men line. only problem is they ask for the price the original ones are really worth! And people bid like crazy on them! But now that we have CCL maybe I won't have to deal with that anymore. Thanks guys!

I used to go to my local comic shop every friday night without fail. But then I got a girlfriend and can never find the time to drive into the city so now I buy from my Newsagent around the corner and use E-bay to get those books that I cant get with my cigarets and condoms!

Here in WI there is different comic shops. But it's a good drive. I have a family and is hard to take 2 small kids into a book store. Has anyone tried ordering from a favorite book store through a mailing list? And how does the condition of the books come to you?

I use a local comic store, Capitol Comics II, for my pull list and most backissues, they have a great selection and another location to pull from if they're missing something. I've used ebay in the past for buying comic lots and usually buy cgc and higher end stuff at comic conventions where everything is always on special. I also find that milehighcomics is a great online source too.

I like to get mine at the local store, but alas, it caught fire about a month ago. They were back at it again on Wedensday fore the new releases, a shop owner next door let them use some extra space. It was kind of scary today though, went to get my new issues and they didn't have the money to pay for the shipment. I had to drive 30 miles to the next closest shop to get them. As for back issues, there is a shop about 45 miles away that has a large selection, but is kind of steep. I hate to abmit it, but I do like brousing on E-bay for large lots to fill in the gaps for cheap.

What would get most people to switch there vote from LCS to internet? There are 6 LCS within a 30 minute distance from me. That being said 4 of the 6 are pricks, don't know anything about comics. They just sell them to make money, most are rip offs as well when it comes to variants, charging $20-175 for something that cost them $1.50 is ridiculous. 1 of the other 6 is bareable, but has a decent collection of new stuff that comes in every week. The final of the 6, the one I visit most frequent is a very nice person with great knowledge over the field, except he doesn't normally get everything I read unless I let him know in advance to order it for me. (Grimm Fairy Tales, Walking Dead, Wrath of the Titans etc..). Personally I don't understand how the other 4 stay in business, they order all the new titles so you don't have to special order anything but the service they give or sometimes what they charge for variants is insane. What would change everyones decision, to buy from an online store (People who said LCS)? I'll be launching my comic site at the end of this year, with an insane collection of 60's,70's,80's, 90's as well as current stuff, I will also have toys and statues as well.

Even if the comics online are a decent price sometimes adding shipping still puts it over the top of what I would pay at the local comic shop. To me, this is only worth it for back issues that the local comic shop does not have in stock or the prices are insanely good, so much so that even with shipping costs it is still a better deal that what I would find at the LCS. I do buy from online sellers though. I am waiting for PayPal to finish three more transactions right now (this might have gone faster if I had not forgotten to update my card information first - oh well). MACJR

Right now my pull list is at 30% off cover price and I still average about $120 bucks a month on comics. If I had to pay that additional 30% (well the shop gave me 10% off acct: my volume - so really on 20% difference) I'd be called a morron. So yeah, I've bailed on buying (not visiting) from my LCS and strictly order my stuff from Finar Comics online. However, I just found this program, so I'm going to be scoping out some of your guys' stuff.

I think I might stick with G-mart for my subscriptions being automatic each month (Discount books just makes an autolist you have to acknowledge/edit, etc..) plus I like the shipping arrangment. BUT I'm 99% sure I'll be ordering through that discount books place for any TPB I'm interested in. Just getting 2 or more TPB at their discount prices with the ~$6 s&h makes is worth wild deal. Mush better than a local book store MSRP on TPB.

i get my weekly comics from my local shop. If you live in So Cal, you should check this place out. It's called Geeks and its in uptown whittier. Every so often (about once a month), i go to this huge warehouse open 2 days a week for some back issues. It's called Frank and Son's. It's basically people have their own booths and you can pretty much find anything there. Again, check it out if your in so cal.

planetcaravan - I really did all the math on comicsupplies and unfortunately I do not have enough books (cost) per month to make it worth the change. In the price per book I'd save ~$3 / month (going to 40% from 25% off) but since I don't break the $25 min/month to get free shipping I'd pay out ~$6-7 shipping a month. At g-mart I currently get free shipping if I let it stockpile to $85 and no monthly minimum. So due to shipping costs I save by staying w/25% off rather than 40% off. That's a shame. Worth the excerise though to know.

With all that crap they been pullin in the Marvel Universe lately, i've dropped most of my books.... Oh wait, scratch that I did pick up the Annihilation series and will be picking up Guardians of the Galaxy, other than that I refused to buy anything new. As a kid I would my comics either at the local comic shop or the grocery store, the gas station or the annual comic convention. The gas station and grocery stores where I live don't carry comics for over a decade. The annual comic convention now later exists. The local comic shops have all closed down. I wish it could allow you to have an option of both LCS & Online because since we discovered this software, even though I've not purchased many online via our sellers yet, I do intend to do so since I'm no longer legally allowed to drive per my families request & my own not that my license has been pulled by our state yet, but because of my failing eyes due to the glaucoma my peripheral & depth perceptions are shot, so I'll not be able to get to the local comic shops as often as I use for Birthday, anniversary, special occasions shopping or just when the urge to splurge hit me. And since my spouse has insomnia & he is my official chauffer now, I limit my outings to only officially required ones such as paying bills or doctor appointments, errand running such as for groceries or picking up medications. As he often is asleep when our LCSs are open I don't have the option of running down to them as often & since they are a good 20 miles away from my house I can't exactly walk to them either. So I would have liked the option of both, since I do still run to the LCS but I'll once finished inputting my husbands extensive collection & my baby collection since I'm now beginning my own then I'll be shopping more abundantly via our stores on CCL.

we got a few LCS in my area.. one is in a mall with a better selection and slightly better discount, but they overcharge for things, and they dont even give the chance to buy variants at cover price they start sellin em for 15-20& which kinda irritates me... they the one i drive by on ym way home from work, not as much selection but they slip a variant into my box when they feel like it, and i like the service alot more... been looking around on here but cant find enough issues from one seller to justify the s&h...

I go to Don's Atomic Comics (Cheektowaga,NY) every wednesday, talk about whatever's going on and pick up my books- 10% off all purchases over $10 and 15% off over $50. I am a little old school. I like to get my comics from stores, flea markets and comic book stores. I have just started to get some online. i get my comics from my LCS which is a 7 minute walk from where i work :D since i am in the Philippines... new comics arrive on Thursdays. Philippine local time is also 12 hours ahead of US eastern time so I pretty much get it on time. not bad for a place halfway around the globe (18 hour flight to be exact) another thing i noticed... (as ive been to comic shops in the US... wow @ midtown comics times square) is that most comic shops in the US have new books on shelves. shops in Manila have books on shelves but are all bagged and boarded. some shops have all the books behind glass counters so that non-collectors dont get to touch the which i appreciate :)

I get most of my books from my local LCS, Fanfare in Kalamazoo, MI (www.fanfare-se.com). It's one of the nicer stores I've been in and the staff are great. I used to help with the pulls there for a couple of years just for the fun of it. New comics, trades and hardcovers are all 20% off. If I can't find it there, I usually use CCL or go to the publisher's online store (that's especially true of Aspen and IDW).

Alot of shops have all their "New this Week" comics on a shelf or rack. After a couple weeks, whatevers left gets put into the back issue bins in another part of the store. Although I still haunt Graham Cracker Comics (think Chicago's version of Mile High, but possibly with more stores), I switched over to Mail Order Comics for the discounts on newer stuff. It works out well, but you have to maintain a certain number of books per month to have the discount bring you out ahead, after the shipping and the bags and boards. I've never had a problem with Mail Order though. For my Silve Age or expensive back issue stuff, I pretty much aggregate from all over the place.

Breaking it down I buy 100% of new issues from a couple different CCL sellers.I buy my new issues mainly form Don at Curious Goods but sometimes I buy my new issues from James at Finar Comics.Both guys are awesome and have the best prices for new issues. Back issues I mainly buy from many different sellers here on CCL and occasionally I will buy some from Ebay if I can find something that the no one on here doesn't have or I can get for alot cheaper on Ebay (like the death of Elektra issue I got on Ebay for like 2 or 3 dollars and it's in VF condition)

Nothing like A local store! - Luckily I live in Chicago and Oak Forest and have plenty of great shops to go to. My pull box is at Dark Tower Comics (on the northside of chicago about 10 minutes from my house) I also go to Chicago Comics (backissues, art books, local artists) (on clark street A few blocks south of Wrigley about 5 minutes from my house) Graham Cracker Comics in Lincoln Park (for backissues I cant find elsewhere) Challengers (for events) A-F in Tinley Park and in Frankfort (when i'm in Oak Forest) Those are all great places but I decide to get my main stuff from Dark Tower. If I cant find something there then I either order it from there or go to one of those other places which are all great and convenient as well.

I get my new books from my LCS - although you can't exactly call it local as it's nearly 3 hours drive away from where I live and I haven't actually ever set foot inside it. I get my subscription sent through the mail and deal with the owner Chris via email - he's fantastic!!\:d/ I get all of my back issues online as there is nowhere else for me to get them. In the past I've used Mile High for the simple reason that I can get free shipping if I order enough (free shipping is a big draw card for me living in New Zealand). However, now that I've found CCL and checked out the prices the stores are offering here, I intend to do a lot of my back issue shopping here:-) After reading through this thread, I'm so envious of you guys living in the US with access to places like Heroes Corner and DCBS. It seems like most of you guys would baulk at the thought of paying any more than 25% off cover price for new books. Unfortunately international collectors like me have to pay up to 150% of cover price!! e.g. for a $US2.99 book I pay (after discount) $NZ6.43 which at todays exchange rate converts to $US4.55. Mind you, it's not as bad as it use to be - I remember paying $NZ12.95 for each issue of Havok & Wolverine: Meltdown back in the late 80's - that was a $US3.50 book which would mean that at todays exchange rate I paid $US9.15 per book. Sadly, my local small comic shop closed. I was a loyal customer since 1990 and went to both "new" locations after the original was closed. As I read the posts I totally agree with the "vintage essence o'comics" smell that is like an old friend. With Mr. Moses gone now, I get my comics from Horizon Comics on eBay. And to those people outbid on back issues in the last minute, I feel your pain, but also I have been known to "sniper" books and win within the last 12 seconds. Horizon has great values, everything is bagged and boarded and they have a flat rate shipping of 5 dollars to the U.S. for up to 40 comics. They also have great customer service and you can easily mail them and request a back issue that's fairly recent (about six months or so) and 9 times out of 10 they will have it in stock, but not listed in the eBay store. The one time they did not have it, they ordered it for me from the distributor. Not a LCS but they are DANG close! Since Moses closed a year and a half ago I've been exclusive with Horizon and don't regret it, the big Comic stores in NYC don't have that personable feel to them like a small owned shop. I also can't stand that 80 percent of the books have a defect of some sort, usually from uncaring employees that just stack the books any which way and ding the corners. HIGHLY UNPROFESSIONAL!! To all the small time owners with love of comics and actually knowing about the books and can discuss them - KUDOS & BEST REGARDS!! :-d

I usually use them for cheaper back issues (in the $0.75 to $1.20 range), so that way I get just over 100 books. I don't like to get high value books from them because a) they're too expensive from Mile High and b) their grading is a bit poor at times so I prefer to just get lower value books that I'm not too concerned about the condition of (I've actually found that I can save a bit of money by getting books they say are VF as these books are usually in the same condition (sometimes better) than the books they say are NM and are a fair bit cheaper. It normally only takes about 10 days for the shipment to reach me.

When I use to get stuff through ebay (I've stopped getting anything there now) it could sometimes take up to 3 months before I got my books (would often get to the stage where I'd given up on actually getting my purchase). I don't know what carrier Mile High use as you don't get a choice when your order makes it to the free shipping requirement. I'm surprised that I've never had any issues when my parcels have gone through customs with the size that some of them are - so far they've all got to me without a hassle and I've never had to pay any duty or taxes (fingers crossed this is always the case [-o<). I've noticed a lot of people on these boards don't seem to like Mile High for some reason but for me, I've never had any problems with them and found them to be the easiest place to get a bulk lot of lower value books. I've seen you around on the boards a bit and was meaning to ask if you were affected by the recent floods in your part of the world?

When this thread first opened, I voted "online" but after several disappointments with [b]Heroes Corner[/b], I'm going back to my LCS...for now. I was referred to Heroes Corner by a good friend who also ran a damn good business and was very grateful for the unselfish referral. And for a few months things were going great...but then for the last 3-4 shipments, I kept getting damaged books. I complained but didn't get a lot of sympathy except for passing the blame onto the USPS. Then just last week, I get a shipment and as soon as I saw the package (a Priority mailer) I knew the books were bent. The mailer was tore all to hell and looked like it had been ran over and chewed on. When I opened it I discovered I was right about the books - five out of nine were bent badly on one corner. I sent a complaint email and was told that not only was it the fault of USPS, but that I was the only customer that ever complained. Well...kiss my ass! x-( I know that's not true and I got tired of someone passing the blame on the postal service for shoddy packaging on their part. I told 'em as much and they told me to return the books and they would replace them. So...I did. And guess what? They have no books to replace them with so they credited my credit card for the amount of the books...and I'm $#!+ out of luck in getting those books back; they are just holes in my collection. x-( x-( So, I'm done with Heroes Corner. If I could have canceled my latest order I would have but it's too late; they've already charged my card. I emailed them telling them that I didn't want any more books from them, and could they please refund me and cancel my account, but I've heard no word (I sent the email on Sunday). So...I guess I'm at their mercy until the other 13 books I've already paid for get shipped. Sorry for rambling, but in a nutshell, I'm done with HC and I'm going to get my 2-3 monthly titles from my LCS. Hope you other fellers have better luck than I have. -g-

No one should ever have to walk away from a business feeling that way, IMO. IMO, HC is still a class act and has repeatedly shown that they care about their customers. Situations like this are bound to occur in any line of work and I think its how the business handles those situations is what gives testament to their metal. I've never had any problems with any sellers on CCL (all through USPS) as far as damaged comics go, because for the most part they are packaged correctly. But it's a little late for me - I sent a "strong" email to HC the other day, so I figure they are as glad to get rid of me as I am to be done with getting damaged goods. :-d And I agree with 4saken1 - if they had shipped in boxes all along, we wouldn't be having this conversation. And what really gets me is they DID ship my August order IN A BOX!! Books were NM, just like they should be. And then the next month, they turn around and use a priority mailer, and the books arrived damaged. I just don't get it. How are they going to be able to ship FedEx and keep the same shipping costs?

The few that were damaged were due to poor (very poor) packing by the seller.

Hey Valiant! Still hanging around - dropping in on threads occasionally. Usually just to stir things up. o:) Made a "clean break" with Heroes Corner this morning. They sent a long email regarding shipping and handling stuff, thanked me for my patronage, and offered three options for closing my account. #1 was receiving my next order via FedEx and then any remaining books would be shipped at their cost. #2 was receiving my next order via FedEx and then whatever books they haven't received by the end of the month would be refunded back to my credit card. #3 was a complete refund, no questions asked, done. So...I took door #3. And I'm happy about it...and sad about it too. HC was very professional about the whole matter - much more professional than I was. :-# So now, I'm back to my LCS - and with only a few titles (meaning 2-3) a month, I can live with it.

Yeah I grab mine from my LCS. I get current issues for £2.35. That is the average. The bigger books eg. Blackest night cost £3.15. Back issues are 50p and the older back issues depending on rarity can range from £2-£8. The owner is a really cool guy as well and just the other day he got a Daredevil in with the first appearance of Elektra. It looked pretty sweet but it's £50 so I would have to save for about 1 and a half months.

I have been getting my books at a FLCS, Comics Etc, for years, but at the end of August my wife and I will be moving out from the city we live in to the country. I only pick up my books 1/month but starting in September, it will no longer be all that convenient. Besides, I have no idea yet what my finances will be like with the purchase of a new home. I've seen some Super Sellers that have brand new $2.99 comics for $1.70 and some offer free shipping once you hit a $25 dollar order. I'm positive you can find a seller here that could not only help you maintain that comic collection, AND also help that budget out in the process. Just a suggestion. I'm seriously considering going that route. I can save enough money to pay for my Store fees every month if I took my entire new comic habit to CCL.

99% of my comics come from CCL sellers.New and back isseus alike. I buy my new issues from Don at Curious Good and Comics,Jim at Finar Comics,and Ted at Chamber Of Comics. I would highly recommend any of those 3 sellers.I am actually able to buy more comics per week since switxhing to CCL as I get my new comics at almost 30% to 50% off the cover price.Sure sometimes I may have to wait 3 to 5 days to get my books but I find it very worth it. As for buying back issues on here I have bought from a slew of people.Some of the usual suspects are Pat at ComicsCastle,Lady Death, Bretts Comic Pile,Comic hutt,Ninjs Pirate Gear,Sanctuary Comics,Errant Entertainment,Alpha Comics,Tree House Comics.All of these sellers are great sellers and very trustworthy.You will receive the best service with each of these sellers.

It's been like this for YEARS soooo all my collecting has been done online. i have been buying comics seriously now since 1993 where up until a year ago i was going to my not so local comic shop, now i was aware that i was paying alot more then if i got them online but i kept going because of being able to catch up with other like minded people and having a chet about all things comics, BUT it all went sour when i told them i had to reduce my standing order due to job change and less money to spend, i thought they would under stand but instead they basicly said if i reduce my order then they wont promise anything i want will be available, so with that i said gooid day sir and have not been back since i even stopped reading comics all together. But last month i was online having a look around and came across mycomicshop.com and decided to place an order and WOW was i surprised at how cheap it was even with the delivery i was almost $100 a month better off so its all started again as of the middle of this year i will be diving back into my hobby (have to wait till then to get home am working in another state and dont want to have to move it all back:-d) and since finding this site i hopefully will be able to have those comic chats once again

For new comics, I buy from and would recommend any of the the following: Read The Story (Play the Game) Finar Comics Curious Goods & Comics Estrella Mountain Comics I also use those mentioned above for back issues in addition to these: Brett's Comic Pile Comics MD Ninja Pirate Gear BlueMoon Comics Not that there aren't tons of other great sellers here. (i should point out, HeroesCorner made significant changes in their rates after i was with them for a years +, and that's the only reason i'm not still with them). if money were no object (as was the case for many years when it came to my hobby) i would probably still be at the LCS every week. my current supplier is Pat (Comics Castle) here on CCL and i have Zero complaints. It's one of those times that having tone of voice would have made it clear what I was saying. I'm not naive, just surprised and disgusted as I said. And when I said small shop, I really just meant any shop that isn't a big box retailer like Walmart and Best Buy. I expect a certain amount of heartlessness at those places because they can afford to drive customers off. Anyway, yeah, I'm sure for every horrible story on here, I'm sure that there are a number of good ones that we aren't hearing. We have two comic book stores in town (Wilmington, NC) and both have great customer service. For new or recently released books (and other stuff), if they don't have it, they will order it for you. And they have sales and run discounts all the time. Good people; I support both stores. But, there are a couple of things that frustrate the crap out of me. In one store, if they received slightly damaged books, they put the books on the shelf (or in your box) and expect full price for them. Don't like this at all. In the other store, they bag and board all of their books before putting them on the shelf. That's great if you want a nice clean untouched book. But...you can't look through prospective books to see if you really want to buy it. So, both stores have their pros and cons, but it's the owners that run the stores that keep me coming back. They are super nice and great to work with. I imagine much is the same for those who get their comics from CCL...yes?

The unfortunate side to my tale is i would much prefer to support my lcs i really would, but the one i was going to was an hours drive away and the guys who worked there were awsome, granted they never gave me any discounts or free stuff and as i said i new i was paying a premium for my stuff, but i enjoyed going the guys were great and it was always fun catching up with other people who shared my hobby, most of my friends don't understand it and as such don't want to know about it. I'm not sure what happened with my lcs not sure if they were just angry that i was down sizing my order, i mean if i was running a small shop and was about to loose a customer that was spending close to if not more then $500 a month ( was making good money and had no kids at the time:D) i would be a little miffed to but i did go back a month later to redo my pull list thinking they would have calmed down but nope still the same attitude so well here i am. On the upside i do intend to check out some of the sellers here am happy for any recomendations of stores to visit. living in Australia i am limited with people who are willing to post here anyway i have ranted long enough :D

I use a local comic shop (Titan Games and Comics) for 100% of my new purchaces. If there is one thing I have found, it is that you have to influence the shop to make it as good as possible. Talk to the shop owners, attend the events, and make yourself heard. As someone who gets 40 to 60 new titles a month, they definitely listen to my opinions (and even solicit them on occasion) because they can't afford to lose the business!

I'm just wondering if many folks are immediately turned away when they see a book listed for $1-$2 more than other books though, without even seeing if the shipping makes it work out to the same or less than other stores that list their books at low prices but offer higher shipping rates. I've tried to set my store up so that I can see immediately what I want to get from books by how they are listed and made a single flat rate option for shipping, which works out to be a better rate with the more books purchased. One of the great things about the CCL checkout feature is that it will calculate shipping for you based on the seller's set rates. For the most part, I think most buyers are savvy enough to figure out what the best deals are (or at least come close). Every customer is different, though, and has their own priorities/guidelines regarding what they are looking for in a potential purchase. I guess the key is having as many options as possible so that you can attract as many different types of buyers as possible!

I buy my comics at two different stores one is local Great Escape I go there three to four times a month, they are always haveing side walk sells and they have a bunch of comics for $49 cents each so i get a chunk of my comics there, then i go to my other comic book store which is an hour away, i get my new comics there, he is nice knows my name and is always helpful, I always say if i can't find what I'm looking for at Great Escape then 90% of the time i can find it at the other one. my second comic book store is called Comic Vault.

I for the most part go to my local comic shop (heroshavenmc.com) they just opened in April so I get all of my subscriptions from there, I have a great relationship with the owner and quite a few times helped him in buy collections that people bring in to sell to him(I guess I'm kinda like an adviser that does not work there). I travel to other shops in about a 50 mile radius and the local flea market (where I have gotten expensive comics fairly cheap). I do buy back issues online either on Ebay, Amazon or here on CCL.

I travel a lot for work, so I often pop into various stores around the country, to grab a back issue or two. Locally (I currently live in Columbus) I visit: Black Hole Comics, Capitol City Comics, Comic Town & occaisionally Laughing Ogre (pretty high prices on back-issues though, roughly $1-2.00 higher across the board regardless of grade - and few are graded, good selection though). On the web I purchase from stores here at CCL, MyComicShop.com, & Mile High, Ebay & Heritage Auctions. I trade with friends once in awhile, and I raid the 50-cent and $1 boxes at comic shows..... Gimme a good 50-cent longbox, and I may come home with 100 readable back-issues. As I said, I travel a lot for work. Comic books are quick-easy-entertaining reads in an airport or hotel room. So, having a stack of 50-cent readers is awesome. I can enjoy reading an old comic, without being terrified and paranoid of devaluing it. 50-cent readers are my favorite comics!

I pick my new books up from a local shop 2 doors down from where I work. For back issues, I will hit up the stores here on CCL if its something I don't need right away. I'm about an hour and 45 minutes from Columbus Ohio and occasionally hit some of the stores there. My favorites are Half Price Books, usually $1.00 or less per issue. I like Black Hole, although I have a hard time finding exact titles that I'm looking for. My new favorite Columbus shop is Worlds Greatest Comics on Westerville Road. Great prices and great back issues. My regular out of town haunt is In the Ballpark in Lancaster Ohio. The place is huge with well organized back issues and a friendly staff.

My "local" shop is an hour-and-a-half drive away :`( so the net is my friend. It saves gas and wear and tear on the car. Most of my new issues come in once a month on preorders from Midtowncomics.com. Back issues I pick up from Ebay, mycomicshop.com, another "local" shop that is even farther away than my regular one, and after the last couple of days right here on CCL. Great pricing on here. I won't save any money in the long run because I'll spend just as much but have a bigger stack to read :-d.

The website is ugly and back issues can tend to be overpriced but they have the best subscription service I have ever used. I love they have a premium grade service which means they will hand pick your comic to be flawless. So no chance of getting a dinged corner or spine breaks on new comic. My new comics, I get from a small shop called Book Fair downtown. There's a few comic stores downtown I usually check out once a month for their "dollar" bins (to bad those comics aren't in good shape :)) ). This summer I started to use ebay and bought some comics (just a couple today as well) on the site. I also check out flea markets and garage sales.

I used to get my comics from a local shop in downtown NYC. Then I found a great contact in Kentucy that would give me great discounts, and I would get my books on a monthly basis (a huge diamond distributor box). When I told my local comic shop (Chameleon Comics near the WTC in NYC), they almost cried, as I was dropping serious change there every week. This was probably 1998 or so. I still get my comics from my friend in Kentucky who owns Little Monster Comics in Somerset Kentucky. GREAT Folks. From time to time I still stroll into Midtown Comics by Grand Central. I just can't get used to paying retail (then get $20 backs off once I spend $100). I spend entirely too much money on comics, but I get great joy in reading them, the smell of my older silver age books, just LOVE that scent that no CBR format will ever provide. My man cave smells like a comic book store, LOL. To me it's not about getting comics for an investment, it's for the thrill of the hunt and the great read that follows. I still go back and read Tales of the Unexpected and Ghosts.

Well I know one place I will not be buying from - called Fat Jack's in Philadelphia to get a copy of both Exclusive covers for Legenderry from them - paid for the comics and shipping on the 13th - and nothing - called yesterday spoke to a manager and he said he would look into it and call back - never did - called today and was told "We don't do that kind of thing - we don't ship out" then when I said I paid already for everything I was told to call back and talk to the manager (Whom I spoke with yesterday and didn't get a response) - Looks like I may need to open up a fraud case with my bank and hopefully get my money back - God this shit frustrates me when trying to hunt down exclusives. ~x(

Has anyone else besides me stopped buying new comics altogether? I am always a few months behind but I buy from a lot of different stores here that seem to get a lot of recent overstock. I can usually get most anything for $1 if I give it some time. The last comic I bought at a comic store was Fables #100, with a low print run and a 9.99 cover I figured I wasn't going to find it cheaper for a long time. There are two comic shops in Raleigh but they ne'er seem to have any sales going on but my buddies have picked up stuff for me from the comic shop in Chapel Hill as they always have awesome sales.i have also found some used book stores where I find new stuff for cheap

I've been buying new issues as they come out each week in one fashion or another for over 21 years and just stopped cold turkey about 2 months ago. I thought the change would be drastic but its not. I find myself either buying the trades here and there or just grabbing certain issues later down the road here on CCL. I thought I would miss it more but I don't and I save a TON of money.

Hi Andrew, welcome to CCL! A lot of people are unfortunate in that they don't have a LCS to shop at so they have to go on-line. But even people that do have local access to comics go to the internet because of the greater selection. And yes, a lot of times it is cheaper buying on-line. Sure you have shipping costs but you can still find some great bargains, plus it gets delivered right to your front door! Hope to see you around! Howie

I was getting my books from Pat and now from DCBS. I didn't have an LCS until last week when one finally opened in my city and only a 2 minute drive from my home. Unfortunately they do not offer any discounts for their pull box customers, so I'll continue to buy most of my comics online. But I'm going to try to support my new LCS by buying my comic supplies there and picking up the odd issue that I sometimes forget to pre-order from DCBS.

I live in Scotland and collect the same American back issues I did originally 35- 40 years ago. I grew up in Canada in 70's and early 80's and loved my comics. I buy most of my back issues on British e-bay. It is very expensive to get them sent from America and if you had a problem with one it would be a hassle. I have established a small list of sellers who can actually grade as most of the comics are over-graded (some greatly). Sometimes I take a chance on an unknown seller if price is right. There is only 1 decent comic shop that sells back issues in Glasgow (used to be a few in 90's) but they are expensive. They sometimes do a half price sale in January but any real valuable ones are put away during half price sale. Any other British collectors of American comics on here?

I even think there's a guy from New Zealand. Are you a DC or Marvel person? Or do you like both? Who are your favorite characters? What is the name of your LCS in Scotland? As you can see from my handle I am a big Moon Knight guy. Marvel is my favorite but I also like a lot of DC and other publishers as well. It is darn expensive to ship overseas unfortunately. It's funny, when I answered the poll back in '07 I pretty much strictly bought my comics at my local comic shop with the occasional online purchase. Fast forward nine years and it's the complete opposite. I'm lucky if I go to the local shop once a year now. CCL gets pretty much all my comic book money (when I have it).

Mostly online, love buying on CCL. Except they need to rein in a seller (I'm sure many know to whom I am referring). Updates every day and often twice in one day, yet only adding 1, 2, or NO comics. I guess being atop the Seller's Post list is important. But caveat emptor...bought from him twice, both times there was no care whatsoever with protecting the comics in shipping. Just lazy AF. I suppose I expect more when ordering vintage books b-) Every other seller on here kicks ass! ComicsMD, jeremyshorr (Titan Comics), danscomics (The Goblin's Cavern), Manhattan_On_Mars, MoonKnight1 (Hall of Heroes), Trimbletitan, symbiotikcomics, Kingsman (Bucky's Comics), PTGRTS, Thundercron (Thundercron's Longbox), BlueMoon, and DGarman (Edgewood Comics) all are top-notch sellers who I would never hesitate to purchase (confidently) from again.
