Free Comic Book Day (I'm not calling it Comics Giveaway Day) 2026!

Whatever you want to say it's the one day a year when you can walk into any comic shop and they give you free books! \:d/ My favorite day of the year because it is always on or near my birthday (May the Fourth Be With You <:o) ) so I am guaranteed to get a present!

Are you lucky enough to have a Local Comic Shop or two that you frequent? Any idea which freebies you want? Please tell us! 8->

There are a handful of stores in my area but I might only have time to hit one up this year. That one would be Velocity Comics right here in Richmond, VA. My good buddy Patrick has been the owner since they opened 20 years ago! They've got a really nice spot right next to the college (VCU) and also have a storewide 25% off sale tomorrow. Don't think I'm going in costume this year. I've been Thor, Grendel and Kevin Matchstick over the years but probably skipping it this time. :-(

Can't remember if they give you 3 or 5 right now :-/ but these are my top 5 that I will be looking for. Colleen will be coming with me this time so I can ask her to get some for me as well. That way she won't have to get me a gift . :-p

I have the option of basically preordering a selection from DCBS, so I usually do that, which frees me up to let the kids get whatever they want at the actual store. (And if there's a year with a really "hot" or important book like the kickoff to a DC crossover, that assures that I will get a copy so I don't have to rush out to the store.) With the day technically being two events, DCBS let me choose a lot this year. I basically checked off anything that looked remotely interesting.

I usually hit up Richmond Comix and their new location is great...but my youngest doesn't always get along well with crowds, and we had some issues with him last year. Instead, I'm probably gonna head up to Short Pump and hit up Stories Comics (which I think has a better sale going on). Even if the kid gets in a certain mood, there's more options in that shopping center to distract him. There's also a 2nd and Charles in that shopping center and an Ollie's across the street, so who knows what kind of interesting stuff I could find?
