Natohk's armies move North, swelling by the day, and the frenzied stories of his mystic powers fly before him. His mission is to reclaim the domain of Set. Princess Yasmela makes the decision that Khoraja will bring the fight to this demon, with Conan leading their forces. Yasmela joins her army, and Count Thespides of Khoraja jealously watches Yasmela's close relationship with Conan. While on the march, Yasmela confides to Conan that Natohk's magics haunt her dreams. Conan also learns from an old colleage that Natohk and Thugra Khotan, the long-dead Grand Priest of Set, are one and the same, and that Natohk keeps servant demons in his camp. The conflict looms, and Conan ponders his odds.
