An undisclosed criminal organization (later named as Advanced Idea Mechanics, or A.I.M.) plots world domination, and they have devised a weapon, an incendiary bomb, fuelled with the mysterious element Inferno 42. The only problem is, S.H.I.E.L.D. has infiltrated their operation and stolen the fuel. A.I.M. has engaged the services of Batroc, a French mercenary, proficient at the fighting art of La Savate. Cap comes across Batroc just as he is accosting the S.H.I.E.L.D. operative, Agent 13 (later named as Sharon Carter). He aids her in recovering the fuel, and can't get over how she resembles the love of his life from WWII.
