An undisclosed criminal organization (later named as Advanced Idea Mechanics, or A.I.M.) plots world domination, and they have devised a weapon, an incendiary bomb, fueled with the mysterious element Inferno 42. The only problem is, SHIELD has infiltrated their operation and stolen the fuel. AIM has engaged the services of the Batroc, a French mercenary, proficient at the fighting art of La Savatte. Cap comes across Batroc just as he is accosting the SHIELD operative, Agent 13 (later named as Sharon Carter). He aides her in recovering the fuel, and can't get over how she resembles the love of his life from WWII.
