Item Biography

"Crescendo!" featuring the Invincible Iron Man.

Iron Man fights his best against the Mandarin's giant killer android, Ultimo, but his power is dwindling. Through some cunning, he lures Ultimo to bring a lava flow down on himself, and Iron Man makes his escape. He returns home to find Stark Industries shut down by the power-mad Senator Byrd.
By Lee and Colan/Michaels. 12 pages.
Reprinted in Marvel Super-Heroes (1967) #30.

"Them!" featuring Captain America.

Captain America's training exercise is interrupted by a visit from Nick Fury. An old chum from World War II, Fury reveals that he now heads a secret spy agency, S.H.I.E.L.D., and that they are trying to stop a advanced criminal group, known only as "Them" (later revealed to be Advanced Idea Mechanics, or A.I.M.) from overthrowing the government. Before they can discuss the issue further, A.I.M.'s humanoid strikes. Together, the pair of experienced fighters put the humanoid down, and Captain America's long relationship with S.H.I.E.L.D. has started.
By Lee and Kirby/Giacoia. 10 pages.

First issue where Gene Colan and Frank Giacoia are credited under their real names rather than their pen names when working for Marvel.
