Item Bio
"Hard Knocks"
Triangle 1992-37. Continued from Action Comics (1938) #681 and continues in Superman (1987) #72.
Clark's neighbor, Gary Johnson, is battering his wife. When the fighting awakens Clark, Superman makes an appearance through the Johnson's window and confronts Gary but Andrea defends her abusive husband and attacks the Man of Steel, then calls the police to have the intruder arrested. Superman must struggle with finding a way to help somebody who doesn't want to be helped. He can't let Gary continue to beat his wife.
Gary and Andrea's son Ted bullies Keith on the way to school, teasing and telling him that if his mother ever comes back it will be for the cat Tiger and not for Keith. Later that night Tiger runs off and goes right up to a woman -- Keith assumes it must be his mom and follows and Underworlder into the sewers.
