As I stated in the GL #1 review, I never read GL comics before the new 52 titles, so being a causual comic nerd who at the very least keeps track of whats going on with the major characters, I was confused reading this book. I thought Kyle used to be GL and then Hal returned to being GL at some point for some reason. In this book Kyle becomes GL but doesn't seem to know what's going on. So is this a complete retool of the Kyle character even know the GL history wasn't rebooted? Uggggh, these are the things about comics that if you think about to much, you get a stomach ulcer.
Anyway, to the comic. I was disappointed in the art. Thought it was a bit lazy. The story, well- it's a bit boring. It seemed like the same old GL story. An old alien is dieing and gives a green ring to a human. The big twist here is there's a bunch of characters show up with different color rings. I guess eventually they will form the new guardians (hence the name of the book)? I guess it was good at setting the stage, that's what a #1 should do, but nothing exciting.
Without a doubt I'm sure this book will be a big hit with GL fans. For non GL fans like me, it's another superhero comic gone boring.
All in all - GL fans may dig this, but the subpar art and boring story make me pass it - 2.5/5.
