Adequate Review for Millar & McNiven's Nemesis 1-A
Comic Book by Icon, May 2010
I must be living under a rock, because I had no idea this title was coming out! I saw it on the shelf when I went to go and buy my weekly books and thought I should buy it in the spirit of Kick-Ass. Not a bad investment, but definitely not up to the slogan depicted on the cover (if you don’t know it, that is up to you to research!)
Let’s start with McNiven’s art. I was pretty pumped seeing his name on the cover. I mean, who wouldn’t be, he is great. The art inside though was not typical McNiven. His lines were definitely present, but the overall composition and general feeling of the characters was not up to his usual standards. Don’t get me wrong, it was good, just not McNiven good.
The writing was sub-par. I am not sure how excited I am about this villain. I really enjoyed the train scene, but only because it was so over the top graphic. As far as Millar’s characterization...only time will tell. If the first issue is any type of indication, I certainly wasn’t sucked into Nemesis’ universe.
I intend on giving this series a shot, out of respect for Millar, McNiven and Kick-Ass. But, I am not holding my breath after issue one.
