Paul Jenkins's variation on a theme for the organization known as COBRA in this one-shot that led into a grittier, more realistic G.I.Joe comic was a breath of fresh air in what was becoming to be a stale franchise. I mean, let's face it, Larry Hama rocks....but new dialogue and characterization is as vital for the upkeep of an old property as mowing your yard. If you don't do standard maintenance, it starts to look old and shabby.
The artwork is solid throughout, and the story is one of Jenkins' finest. Paul has shown in the past that he is capable of writing flawed characters (Hulk, Sentry) - taking someone with the background of hatred that Cobra Commander has and witnessing his fuel to start up COBRA, is something that we've only seen in one-panel flashbacks at this point.
