Web of Spider-Man Enters Review for Web of Spider-Man (Vol 2) 1-A
Comic Book by Marvel, Dec 2009
OK, I have had my collection of “Web of Spider-Man” completed for some time, and now Marvel shakes things up with the re-launch of Vol 2 (at least I think it is vol 2… who knows… the numbering could change at any time). Anyway, I had to pick this issue up to keep my collection complete. So… how was it? We’ll I am going to tell you.
Web of Spider-Man Number 1 had 3 stories. I am not going to say they were great stories, and I would say that one of them, was really not necessary. The first story gave us some insight into the character Kaine and sets us up for Amazing Spider-Man 608. I thought the art work was good, but the dialog blundered on for a bit. Val Semeiks did a great job on the art work, and the panels jumped off the page. Val did a great job in portraying the inner struggle of Kaine.
J. M. DeMatteis did a good job of filling in the background of Kaine, and Ben Reiley. And the anguish that Kaine was going through came through the dialog. However, this was really just an introduction of characters I already knew about, so… not so interesting to me.
The next story was a delve into an alternate universe where Spider-Girl (May “Mayday” Parker) carries on her dad’s legacy. Again, this story was setting us up for future stories that will appear in the new volume of “Web.” The bat character was cool, as I was a big fan of Man Bat in the Batman series. So, here we learn how May comes back to live, and we are ready for future stories.
The last story portrayed the fabulous Frog-Man. This story was completely unnecessary. Nuff Said.

Web of Spider-Man now will be like the ASM EXTRA! issues. 3 stories each (1 will always be Spider-Girl) which will complement current or upcoming ASM storylines. Good review Joe.
