A Product of its Time

I have great memories of reading the Omega Men (Vol 1) in the early 80’s. It was nice to immerse in a cosmic adventure with characters that showed dimensions of suffering and dedication to a cause beyond themselves. The savage nature of Tigorr and the softness of the great hulk Broot, Primus leadership and Nimbus mysterious nature all combined to make this the beginning of my love with Cosmic Comics. It is here where I believe the concept of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy can trace its immediate origins.

No matter how far the imagination takes flight, one should never forget that at its core all comics reflect the reality of the moment. So, what transpired in the early 80’s to make the Omega Men become a reality in so many young people’s mind. The cold war added fuel to the anxieties experienced by many generations, what better source as fuel to the cosmic adventures the Omega Men took us young people in that Reagan revolution. The country shakes and so does our imagination.

Always liked the Omega Men. It was very inovative how DC comics took this team and was able to merge/ally them with other star-spanners in their comic book lines, i.e. Green Lantern(s) and Teen Titan
