"The Patchwork Man"

The Swamp Thing explores the castle of Anton Arcane, Arcane having plunged to his death with his Un-Men. The Swamp Thing is dismayed that, though his mind possesses the knowledge to cure his condition, his form would not enable him to do lab work. When the castle floor gives way, and Swamp Thing clings for his life, one of Arcane's monsters, the Patchwork Man, attempts in vain to save him. Meanwhile in town, Matt Cable follows Swamp Thing's trail to town and meets Arcane's niece Abigail. While they converse, the town is astir over the fact that the castle is in flames. The townsfolk investigate to find the two monsters. We learn that the Patchwork Man is Abigail's father, Gregori, who stepped on a landmine one day. His brother Anton kept him alive but in his current monstrous form. Gregori perishes protecting his daughter from the flames, and Swamp Thing delivers Abigail safely to Cable's arms.
