Xavier heads out to help the Skrulls while the X-Men relax with their very different brand of baseball but not everyone's heart is in to it. Ororo is distracted and haunted by things yet to come. On Genosha, the civil war continues between the mutant population and the former Magistrates but something is wrong with Magneto, he is loosing his power. But just as dangerous, he is loosing the support of his Acolytes, mainly the treacherous Cortez who looks to supplant Magneto. Mystique infiltrates the CIA to get some information while her former associates, the Brotherhood plan to steal a prototype weapon and sell it to the highest bidder. But all of this is rendered a moot point as Ororo's fears come to light with the arrival of the High Evolutionary. He proclaims that mutants are a destructive force and must be neutralized for good of Earth as he takes away the X-Gene, causing all mutants to change into normal humans.
