Ka-Zar has tracked Kraven down at his NYC apartment tower and brings the fight to him. While Kraven learns that the more worthy target of his hunt was the man and not the beast, another element comes into play. As Kraven flees to lick his wounds a mysterious caller introduces himself as the Petrified Man, and tells how his fate and that of the Savage Land itself are tied.

Doctor Doom searches in the aftermath of the failed coupe for his android, the Doomsman. It turns out that Prince Rudolfo has an ally, the Faceless One, who is aware of Doom's predicament, and of the potential of the Doomsman. He plans to pull the Doomsman to their side, swaying the balance of power.
