Marvel Super-Heroes (1967) 16-A by Marvel
Item Bio
"The Phantom Eagle!" by Friedrich and Trimpe. 20 pages. Karl Kaufman can't afford to sign up to fight in WWI, despite his flying skills, as his parents still live in Germany, and to do so would risk their safety. He does, however, don his Phantom Eagle disguise, and fight anonymously to clear the skies of the German aggressors.
"The Un-Human!" featuring the Original Human Torch (E-960) by Ayers. 5 pages. First time printing of an un-published Golden Age story. Aliens come to Earth to ease their own planets overcrowding, and plan to de-populate Earth by dropping a monster, the Un-Human, in their midst. The Torch and Toro must stop the killing, hydra-like beast.
"The Cargo of Death!" featuring Captain America and Bucky (E-233) by Romita. 7 pages. Reprinted from Young Men #28. Cap and Bucky board a freighter bound for Africa on which Communist agitators are smuggling drugs to fund a rebellion.
"The Black Knight Unmasked!" (G-292) by Lee and Maneely. 6 pages. Reprinted from Black Knight (Atlas) #3 (title taken from cover of Black Knight #3). Mordred plots to unmask the Black Knight by having his agents 'accidentally' wound him in the tournament, then whisk his mask off. As the plot unfolds, Merlin comes to the rescue.
"Death Stalks the Shipyard!" featuring the Patriot. 6 pages. Reprinted from Marvel Mystery Comics #29. Construction of the US's newest warship is halted by labor troubles. The Patriot snoops around and finds a Communist agitator to blame, and blows the lid off of the scheme.
"Vengeance!!!" featuring the Sub-Mariner (E-804) by Everett. 7 pages. Reprinted from Sub-Mariner Comics #35. Namor receives a call for help from a Professor Zunbar. He answers the call only to find a trap, and that the Professor has created an amphibious monster, but it is flawed in that it fears the water. The Professor plans to swap brains with Namor to fix that. Betty Dean comes to the rescue.
