"The Battle of Springfield"
The Joes continue a hard fought battle against Cobra in Springfield. Serpentor has the edge since he has absorbed Joe tactical plans and can counter everything they throw at him. Cobra escapes, but Rip Cord is found alive. The Dreadnoks make their way back to their old headquarters where they plan to get Zartan back from the Pit where they bump into his sister Zarana.

First appearance of Zarana.

"GI Joe Special Missions: Best Defense"
A Russian plane with a noted American chess player is hijacked and will be used as a kamikaze attack on a chemical warfare plant. They plan to ram the jet into the building, releasing a cloud of toxins that will kill millions. Flint, Lady Jaye and Beachhead are called upon to rectify the situation.
