I wanted to speak about Change Requests. I'm hoping that this can be a civil conversation, and that no personal attacks will be made.

For those of you who don't know, you can add new issues to the database, and edit existing database entries, through things called Change Requests. There is a group of volunteers here, called Approvers, who try to make sure that the Change Requests are as accurate as possible. They research titles, credit information, pretty much everything.

Sometimes, this can take a little while to be completed. The process, however, can be helped along by adding as much information to a Change Request as you can.

If you've got a book that's not in the database, add a link to the company website. Take a quick scan of the cover and indicia (the part inside the book with all the legal jargon). If you don't want to risk scanning the interior of a book, or you don't have a scanner, a nice, clear picture works just as well.

This helps the Approvers tremendously. By supplying this information, it cuts down on the research that an Approver needs to do to accept a Change Request. Unfortunately, saying "Because I said so." is not a valid resource. Taking the picture or scanning the cover, IS a valid resource.

Now, a common misconception is that I am an Approver. I am not. I used to be, but my personal life caused me to step down. I still find that the Approvers are a great group, who work very hard in their free time to make this site and this database as complete and accurate as possible.

So. If you're adding a title, provide scans and photos. Provide links. If you're simply adding a variant, take the time to fill out whatever information (writers, artists, editors, characters, ratings, etc) that you can. It makes the site a better place.

And every once in a while, take a minute to tell one of the Approvers thanks. They work hard, they deserve a little respect and appreciation.

Thank you, Swiftmann, sgriffin, scotteaves, Comicscastle, Crackerjack, Padreglcc and all the others whose names have slipped my mind.
