if not, would it be easy to connect your PC/laptop/hard drive to your TV?

if "no" to either, don't do it - you'll just get frustrated.

Let me start by saying that I'm kind tech-ignorant so I may not know all the correct terms, but here we go:

A friend of mine decided to do just what you're thinking. He converted his entire DVD collection to digital copies. It's been time consuming. He's been working on it for 3+ months. He decided to put everything in iTunes because he has Apple TV, Roku, Slingbox, iPad...basically he can access his collection from just about anywhere.

I know he's had to purchase multiple TB external hard-drives to make it all work, but he likes that sort of thing.

It could get a little costly and is definitely time consuming but if you're willing to put the work in it can be done.

WTF? Glad I don't have any apple products... it takes me about 10 minutes to copy a DVD onto my HDD - no conversion, full size files. That's on a PC pushing 10+ years - that's ancient for a PC!
I've got a rather large DVD collection and there's no way it would take me 3 months to get it all onto hard drives. Even if I stripped out all the b.s. extras, subtitles, and foreign audio to just get the movie.
Also, if you're paying more than $0.50 per GB on a HDD you're getting screwed.

Pat, put 'em on an external drive and then it doesn't matter if your 'puter dies, you can use it on any machine.

Its interesting in terms of trying to get all the files sorted and stuff but you all know as said the time consumtion. But that being said i think if i use the proper programes and atuff it will pay off in the end. Also by if i can find out how to condense the sizes of fes down that will make it fit better onto the hdd. Trying to keep the quality of course too.
