I recently came across a copy of Avengers #1 without a cover. Actually, there is a cover except that it's a cheap photocopy and isn't even attached to the comic. I think it's there mostly for protective purposes. The comic is pretty beat up, the pages are brittle with numerous rips and tears. The spine looks like it was taped or glued perhaps and there is even a page missing (ads on both sides). If there was a Poor minus (PR-) grade that's what this is. Amazingly however, the entire story is intact. Not that I've decided to sell it, I may just hold onto it for the cool factor, but would there be any kind of market for this? Check out Hall of Heroes for hard to find Gold & Silver Age comics! Marvel! DC! Gold Key/Whitman! ACG! Dell! Archie! I also have a diverse selection of Independent and Underground books for sale - with more on the way!

You might actually be able to get about $50 for it. A good copy is worth about $575 and I figure a PR- should bring 10% of that.

Wow. I thought coverless comics were pretty much worthless. I have an old Batman Annual from the mid-60s that I'm wondering about now. I was excited once to find a 1954 copy of an Action Comics at a garage sale. Much to my dismay, I realized when I got home that several of the story pages were missing. I threw it up on ebay anyway, and was surprised when I got $35 for it, and it wasn't even a key issue.
So you never know......!

There is actually quite a market for coverless comics...if they are vintage, like that Avengers #1.
The only caveat is that the story has to be complete....so, you actually have something there.
I, personally, wouldn't sell it. I mean, it's Avengers #1. That's a pretty cool comic to own.

The twenty or thirty bucks (or whatever) that I could get for it will never bring me back the original. I do have a reprint but that is definitely not the same. I think there's a few collectors out there who look out for coverless gold/silver age comics for binding purposes.
