We can all breathe a little easier, fellow gamers:

http://news.yahoo.com/next-xbox-won-t-force-users-stay-online-171516119.html

Quote:
Good news for Xbox fans: Microsoft has decided to not commit commercial suicide by forcing gamers to have an Internet connection just to play games. Ars Technica has got hold of an internal Microsoft email to Xbox engineers outlining “a number of scenarios that our users expect to work without an Internet connection” and instructing the engineers to make those functions “‘just work’ regardless of their current connection status.” The email goes on to say that the new Xbox should be designed for “playing a Blu-ray disc, watching live TV, and yes playing a single player game” without an Internet connection. Rumors that Microsoft would require an online connection for single-player games gained fuel recently when former Microsoft Studios creative director Adam Orth told critics of an always-online console to “deal with it” because “every device now is ‘always on.’”

Besides that, everything else has a used market. Used movies, used books, used comics, used clothes, used furniture, used cars, used music, you name it. You don't see those industries trying to make the consumers out to be villains for buying used.

Amazon and some other companies are trying to come up with a way to resell e-books. Yes folks, they are trying to get a used market going for digital books.

Essentially, you would buy a new release e-book for 2.99 or whatever and after you are done reading it, you could then have the choice to keep it, or put it up for sale under your account at a reduced price.

This kind of sounds like the reader can make some of their money back, but dollars to donuts that Amazon is trying to figure out a way how THEY can make money off of it. It's a piss off that the only people who won't see a dime are the actual writers and publishers.

I'm like you guys, I'm on a budget. But whenever possible, I try to go to used games as a last resort. I'd rather wait for a price drop on a new game (greatest hits status or discounted on PSN) than buy the game used at places like Gamestop where they make double profit on games because they probably sold that same game as a new release and again as used.

Again, if this used game key thing helps put some money back in the pockets of the developers, I'm all for it. Buy a used game for 10 or 15 dollars, pay 5 bucks for the software key and you still got yourself a great deal on a game.

You left out the part where they only gave the seller $3 ($5 in trade credit!) for that month-old game, but are charging $54.99 for it used while the new copy sits next to it for less than $5 more...

So I'm late to this, I know. I had to work, as I'm sure a lot of other people did at 1 in the afternoon.

But I really only have 2 things to say about it:

1. The hardware itself looks reminiscent of the original Xbox.

2. The only real upgrades I can see is that it plays live T.V., you can control it with your smart-phone, and you can record live gameplay.

Well, I can already watch live T.V. by simply turning off my XBox.

What's so hard about using a controller to control your Xbox? The smart-phone control upgrade really doesn't make sense to me.

Recording gameplay is admittedly pretty cool. But I'm not buying a whole new console just based on that.

Sounds like they want to watch TV via your Xbox & by being online all the time they can keep track of what you watch. This of course is worth $ to advertisers, maybe customize the ads you see when using internet explorer.

One of the articles I was reading had photos of it on a pedastal surrounded by media people - this is a MASSIVE piece of hardware! Easily 'standard' A/V component depth and width...

Well they announced you will have to pay to RE-ACTIVATE a used game. In other words they want a piece of the pie from gamestop, lol.

I dont see it lasting though, once Sony starts selling more units then them they will change tune or figure out a way to disguise charge.

Thanks to the following sellers for helping me put together my complete run of Amazing Spider-man #1-700

ComicCastle
TreeHouse
Hall Of Heroes
Thundercron's Longbox
DrumCzar

Now for the sellers helping me finish my TMNT collection:

Hall Of Heroes
Green Bay Comics

If one of the game makers went the other direction & made everything backwards compatible & didn't have extra requirements they could steal a ton of market share IMO.

I stopped in Gamestop today, he wasn't sure yet how much it'll hurt, said the new X-Box wouldn't need to be online 24/7 just once a day. He also said Sega was thinking of jumping back into the market with a new console, bring back Sonic & some other stuff.

I guarantee he's full of it on the Sega comment. Sega's doing so bad, they have been considering releasing all their games via online networks like XBox Live and Steam to save production costs.

I was fairly unimpressed. I'm still happy with my 360 as well. I will reserve my opinion till E3 though. Plus you know Sony is going to do something about used games as well. It's not going to be just M$.

If anything I will get a used 360 if I want to play xbox games. I am still more interested in the new Play Station than I am the new X-Box.

Think Interesting. Drop the price more and I may give it some serious consideration.
