I started reading this series tonight and of course immediately noticed that Dick Grayson is Batman...I haven't read a whole lot of Batman in the last 10 years, I am however reading a couple of the current titles, so I know that Bruce Wayne is still around...Can someone give me the short version of what happened to Bruce that led to this storyline? I appreciate the help!, thanks

***SPOILERS AHEAD***

In the terrible crossover-event (although some awesome covers), Final Crisis, by Morrison; Darkseid shot Batman (Bruce Wayne) with his Omega Beams (energy beams from his eyes). Instead of killing him, like it does to everyone else, it somehow made him get lost in time. While he was time-lost, Dick Grayson took over the role of Batman, until Bruce returned months later.

Does everyone think Bruce is dead?...or do they know he is just lost in time?

If I recall correctly, they all believe him to be dead.

Tim Drake believed he was still alive and convinced Hal and Barry, they just didn't know where/when he was (in Blackest Night the 'resurrected' Batman didn't recognize anybody, which was very unlike the rest of the resurrected) as shown in the next to last page of Blackest Night #8.
