Due to a massive storm that rolled through on Wednesday, my whole town (and most of my county) in southwest Michigan has been without power since Wednesday night at 10pm. That's 40 hours at this point. The power company says that we ought to have power back on by Saturday night. If they're correct, that'll make it roughly 70 hours with no power. Here's what's been going through my head today.

I am very fortunate. I am very blessed.

I have a roof over my head. I have running water. I have been able to eat. I have a car to drive. I have friends in Kalamazoo who have let me set up temporary offices at their churches or businesses so that I can use the internet. I have a cell phone that works. The nights have been cool and the days sunny and mild. No one that I know lost their lives in this storm. My property was not damaged when trees came down. I am alive, I am employed, and I have family and friends who love me. Most of all, I am confident in the hope that I have through Jesus Christ and am blessed to be part of what He is doing in this world.

In short, although I can't watch TV, read past dark, get on the internet at home, and have had to throw away a little food from my fridge, life is good. I have been reminded over the past day and a half that those things I can't do without electricity are paltry things and that life consists of more than that. I have also been reminded of those throughout the world who "have not" and even without electricity, I'm still more fortunate than many. I really have nothing to complain about.

Still... I would like to be able to do laundry soon.

Sometimes, when you go through hard times, it reminds you of how much you have. Glad to hear that you and your family are safe.

Good luck with the laundry!

Hope your power comes back soon!

Sorry to hear that man. That storm just missed me, as I'm over by Notre Dame.

My best to ya, fellow Michigan-ian. I drop some prayers for you and yours.

Got home this evening and discovered that the electricity is now back on - more than a day ahead of schedule! Never been so happy to be able to do laundry!

Now you can imagine what we went through during Super Storm Sandy when we were without power for 11 days.
