Some may be holding torches and pitchforks, but I'm strapping on a life jacket just in case the ship goes down because (to continue the analogy) the ship is definitely taking on water. It's just a question of whether or not the captain and his crew can patch the holes fast enough - sales are miserable, non-Approver submitted CRs are at an all-time low, stores are closing, stuff on the site just flat-out doesn't work, CCL employees continue to be MIA (popped in for June & July to promote the b&m store, but otherwise missing from the site for an entire year now).

I'm actively researching alternative websites to keep a Wish List on for redundancy so any transition is quick and painless for that. Cataloging and selling is a much more complex answer, but a less immediate need should CCL not remain viable.

You've got to be completely blind if you can't see the downhill slide this site has been on. Stores are closing left and right. The message boards are pathetic compared to the activity we used to have. And the website itself is chock full of bugs.

It's not bashing if it's true. But the problem is more the fact that we keep being told "it's coming, it's coming, it's coming" for years at this point, and it hasn't. Instead they open a store, which takes away focus and resources from the promises they've been failing to keep, so far.

And if we're being told these things are coming, as we're giving them our money, then it is ABSOLUTELY our business as paying customers who these promises have been made to.

But I guess if what Xylob said about not expecting anything until the end of the year, I'm jumping the gun. It's hard not to take it as just more empty promises, though, at this point.

And to be clear, I'm NOT anti-CCL. I post these concerns because I'm a fan of CCL and I don't like watching it die like I am. I also feel that promises made to us long before the brick & mortar store was even announced should have been addressed first.

Not blind. Not even slightly. Just tired of everyone stating how much they love CCL holding their torches and pitchforks.

This constant bashing and tearing down of CCL is one of, if not the prime reason, that the boards are suffering. Apparently I can't post something neutral (not even pro-CCL) without getting immediate backlash to my comment.

I can tell you honestly I have trouble reading, listening and paying attention to every snide and negative comment posted to these boards about CCL. I would ignore everyone here too.

So then we should just sit-down, shut-up, and watch something we've paid for, put effort into, and have loved slowly die?

That's a fantastic alternative. Rolling Eyes

Basically we're just waiting on the developers, not sure anything we say here is going to affect that timetable. Sure the guys upstairs could hang out on the boards more often but hopefully they have more productive things to do elsewhere. For me it's standby mode until the holidays roll around.

Well guess what, so far you guys have proven us right. The website and software haven't got a lick of changes...
We were also told that we shouldn't expect to see anything with the site or the software until the end of the year or shortly after.

It's still so difficult for me to wrap my head around the fact that the guy who was extremely (and frequently) vocal about his disgust with the subscription fee implementation and who also once proclaimed that he would never contribute another single CR until the fee was gone now being the one who so calmly toes the company line every time any negative comments are posted.
Even going so far as to create your own anti-CCL forums at one point...

Sorry for not being one dimensional enough for you Xylob but I think my position during that brief period was a bit short-sighted and I've gained a lot of perspective in the five years since then.

That is beside the point though. You do not have a right to private information. That's all I was speaking to.

Thanks for the clarification Jim.
Your original and primary reason for the previously mentioned 'disgust' on your part was all based on this simple issue:
It is wrong to charge people to access the data they are voluntarily providing for free.
This point has been agreed upon as true by a great many individuals here at CCL.
You hammered on this one point long and hard sir - my recollection is that it was in fact not a "brief period".
Would you care to illuminate us all as to how we are still short-sighted in continuing to maintain this position?

Thank you in advance.

Sometimes, the information has to stop being private... I'm pretty sure if you just opened up and showed some kind of clarity on what's going on, there would be people buying from shops, and shops actually staying open. Right now, what there is is a bunch of stores, essentially working for you, getting you money, for you to give the finger to the people running the stores.

This place was crawling with CCL Admins earlier in the summer. Now that the storefront is up and running, there's no one in sight. For the average user, without knowing any of this "private" information... This is mighty leading into the train of thought that you came here to promote the shop, and are content to just let the site die now that the shop is up and running... You said that the brick and mortar store would not take away customers from the CCL stores. Is this true? Or is how that store is being run also "private information" for those of us who do not live in the Tennessee area?

People need information. And to say that you aren't going to share the information with the people who need it... Well, that's just giving them the finger.

I think you misunderstood me Xylob. I simply said that I felt that I was short-sighted, not anyone else. And I really don't feel like drudging up old conversations that aren't completely in line with where I currently stand. That topic is done and over and I simply commented on what information from CCL you feel you have a right to. I'm not upset or anything but throwing me under the bus like that isn't very nice. Dude, I don't speak for CCL so I can't really help you with your post. I agree with some of what you said and disagree with some. Some of it you claim that "I" made statements that I did not make. So I'm not really sure what you tell you.

That's the thing, though. No one who does speak for CCL seems to be around any more. I actually kinda assumed you did speak for the company, since you're pretty much the only admin I've seen in quite some time who actually posts. That was a wrong assumption, and I do apologize.

But it's frustrating to not hear news, then be bombarded with advertising a new store that competes with the stores here, then not hear a word from anyone in what seems like forever.

No worries, man. It's all good, I get where you're coming from. I have my share of frustrations as well but sometimes I just like to post things that I know will make Xylob turn enormous and green and cause destruction upon the world. Mostly because it's funny.

Ok, that part with Xylob I was just kidding about. But the rest is true.

The only thing worse than no updates from CCL is the constant public bashing of CCL.

+1, this open hostility doesn't do any good for people who might want to stop by these boards & say hi. Also perception becomes reality, so if you perceive that the ship is sinking it will. It's a self-fufilling prophecy.

You mention perspective, and I think that's a massive problem here. CCL has shown (on Facebook, but not on CCL itself) that money has been spent on new offices and a new comic store and six hour road trips to buy 9,000 comics. Meanwhile, no one from CCL even stops in here. The perception CCL is creating is that all the fees and subscriptions and commissions have gone to the parent company to support everything except CCL itself.

Well, sometimes the ship is literally just sinking while you look at it. Nothing self-fulfilling about it if it's already happening.

-Sales are terrible.
-Stores are closing.
-Wish List notifications have dropped to almost none (meaning stores aren't listing).
-CRs are non-existent.
-Forums have tumbleweeds rolling by unless it's a thread like this one.

Those first three mean far less money into CCL. The bottom two imply less money as it implies less subscribers. Actual or implied, it's all problematic.

I'm seeing a lot of surprising 180s here from folks - mostly previously vocal nay-sayers taking a different side but the most surprising is Nate, which speaks volumes.
Nobody could compare to Nate when it came to being CCLs cheerleader.
I will not drink the kool-aid, sorry. Nor will I be purchased.
There's nothing wrong with faith, but blind faith equals ignorance and is no better or different than superstition.

Going back to Nate's change in stance - respect and loyalty must be earned. Always.
Once those things have been earned, you cannot simply rest on your laurels and expect them to remain permanent. Mistakes can and will be made, certainly, but when you keep making the same mistakes over and over again and have no interest in learning from your errors, you lose respect and loyalty. Once you earn those things you must continue to work towards maintaining them - you never get to the point where you don't have to keep earning it.
If one of your most loyal supporters is brought to the point where they question you so often, you have failed in many ways.

While it's true that all the negative posts could possibly drive away any future members, you can't really blame that on the current members. If the gripes had no real merit, that's one thing. But these are legitimate gripes.

Saying the bashing doesn't help and pointing the finger at the members is like seeing someone break up with their girlfriend in a public restaurant and then saying the girlfriend has a lot of nerve for making a scene.
