This comic is what made me think of this:

I was filing it away after reading it just recently. And after reading it, I realized that this comic has WAAAYYYY more to do with War of Kings, than it does Secret Invasion. In fact, it's pretty much the set-up issue for War of Kings.

Now obviously if you keep your comics in alphabetical order, it would go under "Secret Invasion." But then, what if you want to go back and read the War of Kings story again (BTW, if you haven't read War of Kings, you really need to get on that. Marvel cosmic goodness at it's best!), and it's 5 years later? You didn't remember that the prelude issue is "Secret Invasion: War of Kings," and you think you have the entire story with the main mini-serieses.

What do you guys do? In situations like this would you just group that with the rest of the War of Kings stuff (I did), or do you HAVE to have your collection in alpha-numeric order no matter what?

This is what I did as a collector.

For example, I bought the entire Inferno crossover when it first came out, but I also collected Daredevil and Power Pack. So I'd have seperate copies of those to go with each character collection.

I put 'em right back where they were - I'll read 'em again eventually.
For example I have one legal sized filing cabinet with post-COIE Superman, all books in reading order from Man of Steel #1 through this week's books.

I have enough expenses and hobbies that I don't have the extra cash to buy two copies of comic just to be a place-holder.

Oh, I see now. I thought you just meant in the order you planned to read them in.

I file everything in alphabetic order but at the front of the title I have a backer board that I write notes on. If an issue of Daredevil crosses over with Spider-man I note that on the board. The same with mini's and spin-offs and anything else that might be important to me (1st App, origin, special guest etc). This way if I want to reread something I know right where to go to get at everything and it doesn't take much to add information. It also works for when a title changes name.

The following stores are all stores that I've dealt with or have become friends with through the forums and I highly recommend them all.
Comics Castle-AKA Pat McCauslin
Alpha Comics--ComicVortex--Comic Cellar--Hall of Heroes--Swifty's Olde Tyme Comic Shoppe
