Hi all, I'm in need of some guidance.

I recently acquired a small stack of Dazzler comics (#21 to #23 & #25 to #29), but they are all the Canadian Price Cover variant of the ones currently in the database.

I know that issue #22 has such a variant in the database currently and I just wanted to make sure that these are still accepted AS variants before I proceed with adding a bunch of change requests and variant additions.

Dazzler #22A
Dazzler #22B (Canadian Price Cover)

The reason I am double checking is because I'm always confused by what's accepted, especially when it comes to Price variants or newstand vs direct edition and all of that and I would hate to put in all the effort just to have them rejected.

My plan is to update all of the current Live Data for the "A" entries, wait till those are accepted and then use the "add variant" function.

Is this the proper way to go about it and do the Canadian Price covers actually merit their own variant entries?

They will be fine to add, Dan. You shouldn't have to do too much editing to that run. I went through that run a couple of years ago and added all credits and characters (except for #28, which I haven't got). So they should be straight to add the Canadian copy as a B variant.

Awesome, thanks.

I'll scan the covers tonight, expect to see CR's for these by the weekend.

Dazzler comic collectors (..or rather..collectoR..lol), rejoice!

I always meant to ask you, but do you have any Spider-Man or Hulk Canadian variants, or any, thereof from this period; '82 - '86? I'd like to see as many of those added to the database as possible for completion's sake.

I might have a couple of those. Every time I find one I add it in. I'll take a quick look around and see if I have any that are missing.

Fantastic News! Hall of Heroes has now surpassed 600 Hero Ratings! I couldn't have done it without all of you and I will strive to maintain and improve my high standards. Which brings me to my next announcement - starting now, all shipments will come with tracking at no extra charge to you! I'm a little late to the party but as they say - better late than never. You spoke and I heard you loud and clear. Excelsior!

HA... funny enough, I have a complete uninterrupted run of ASM #239 to #302 and none of them are the Canadian Price variants. lol.

They all have US first, then UK and CAN in smaller font.

I'm sure someone has/will find an exception, but as long as they are English-language editions, pretty much any price variant is allowed in the database.

Good to know. I never looked, by I wonder if the "Éditions Héritage" Québec publisher reprints are in the Data Base.

I don't have any of those issues left, but they were French translated, Black & White reprints of comic books. I used to have a couple of Incredible Hulks and Archies.

Example:

anywho.. that's a bit off-topic at this point. I'll see what I can do about any Candian Price covers I may have in my collection.

As they are in French, no they wouldn't be in the database.

Although I wish we got rid of this anti-foreign rule.

Whatever you do don't change the rules, you never know in like 30 years Joe may show up and get really mad. Or it may put off the update coming in 2045 :)

Thanks to the following sellers for helping me put together my complete run of Amazing Spider-man #1-700

ComicsCastle

Ok, well that just about does it. Thanks Icarus for adding edits and approving things so quickly.

I went through my mid-eighties issues and added whatever Canadian Price covers that I have.

I only have Gargoyle 1,3 & 4 left to do, but I want to wait until I get home and re-read them first because there isn't a lot of Data in the "A" cover entries and I want to make sure those are accurate before submitting those Canadian scans.

Anywho, thanks for all the help. It went smoothly! Big Grin

Thanks for submitting, Dan. Just a little tip if you find any more Marvel Canadian variants. Watch out that you add the "CCA Approved" content rating, as most of the A covers are Direct and weren't carrying the seal at that time.

Hmm....question: does this mean that those mid-eighties direct Marvels shouldn't have the "CCA Approved" rating in the database? Never thought about it before until you mentioned this. While it's true the directs didn't carry the seal for whatever reason (just an oversight, in my opinion), I don't think it was ever implied that they weren't code approved, as indicated by the newsstands always carrying the seal.

Like most else, if it's not on the book, it shouldn't be in the listing. That would include all the direct edition 80s Marvels.

My recollection is that Marvel's taking the Code seal off its direct covers in the early '80s was a deliberate choice. For a while there, Marvel thought that the seal was unnecessary in the comics shop environment, and retailers mostly didn't object. Then there was some sort of flap (I do not recall details, but I do recall a discussion at my LCS), and suddenly Marvel wanted to have the Code seal to point to, so the seal reappeared on direct-sales copies.

During the period in which direct copies didn't have the seal, there were a few issues for which newsstand copies didn't have the seal, either (we discussed this here a few months ago). Power Pack #23 was one. Daredevil #231 was another.
