Hey guys, we were going through the ticket system today when we came across this interesting ticket. We checked it out and yes he is a real person and Prestige Assisted Living homes is actually a great assisted living home in Vancouver. So we decided to send him a few of our variants and extra books that we had laying around just to let him know that people care. We just thought that you the community might be interested in contributing to helping him as well. So here is the ticket along with the mailing address. I'm sure he would greatly appreciate anything you would send him. Thanks guys!

Quick question. What's the guy like to read? Anyone know? Age? Or is he just looking for anything to read?

I'll get a package out, get rid of some of my multiples from my trade list.

Shane----that signature is disturbing on many levels. So wrong. I love it.

He's just after anything he can read to keep busy. No specifics. I just threw in a couple of valiant trade's and duplicates I had laying around. I'm sure he'll appreciate anything he receives! You guys are the best!

Yeah, I miss the good 'ol days of sitting down by the fire and reading about what "Matter Eater Lad" got himself into this time.

I think Shane's signature is a scene out of Adventure Comics #344, published in 1966 in a story called "The Super-Stalag of Space". It's the first time Tenzil ever uses his matter-eating abilities at 'super-speed'. LOL!

Yupppp. That's the book it came from. A little side note on that panel if I may. Tenzil Kem (The Matter Eating Lad) ate his way out of a prison that a KRYPTONIAN couldn’t punch his way out of. That, my friends, is mighty impressive.

Ok, thanks for the info. I'm gonna get something together, I want to try to find a run of something or some one shots or something so there's some continuity.

Anyone looking for cheap shipping. I recommend USPS flat rate boxes, i was able to fit 75 comics in one and it ships for $9.80.

I realize this is kind of an old post, but I came across it in a Google search and felt a need to respond.

I've now received 2 requests from this individual, but from me he is requesting WW2 books. Here's the e-mail I got:

Dear Sir

I am writing to ask you for your help.my name is Larry I am a disabled person living in a Assisted Living place, and my only enjoyment in life is reading and studying books on World War Two mainly on the Waffen SS, the problem is after i pay my rent here and get the meds i need i can no longer buy any books, and our city library is very limited,so i am reaching out to ask if you got any books on the Waffen SS in over stock or has not sold that you could please send to me? I would be very greatful, you can call here to verfiy that i am on the level if you would like? ###-###-####,

Thank You
LARRY WAKEMAN
C/O PRESTIGE ASSISTED LIVING

P.S I really am not a picky man, i love books on World War Two, mainly about the Waffen SS,or about Panzers and Tank Battles,so if you have any books in over stock or books that are not selling i would love the help,Thank You.

[end quote]

So his only enjoyment in one e-mail is books on WW2, but in another it's comics? I did verify that Prestige Assisted Living does indeed exist, the phone number matches, but I didn't call to verify that he's a RESIDENT. He could be staff? He could be using this as a front to get stuff to sell to a dealer or funnel to a child in the business or who knows what.

The first time I got this I told him he could contact his local library, who is tied into a nation-wide library lending program, and could request any book he could think of. The library system that serves Vancouver will even DELIVER the books to him. He obviously has internet access. He came back with a very lame excuse why he couldn't do this, as I recall.

I guess I've been on the receiving end of so many scam e-mails that I'm getting pretty cynical, but it just seems a little fishy to me that I've now gotten this e-mail twice and then I find another variation of it here.

Just thought I would alert you, in case you were thinking about sending any more comics his way.

Best regards,

A Minnesota Bookseller
