I am not complaining and I don't want to sound ignorant but I was wondering if I could get clarification or guidelines as to how titles are alphabetized when they have punctuation marks in them. For instance, G.I. Joe comes up before Galactic Guardians - Star Wars is before Starblast, etc. Plus certain titles with a lot of sub-series seem haphazard to me. G. I. Joe vs the Transformers is ahead of G. I. Joe: A Real American Hero. I realize that the marks are ordered somehow, is there a framework I can look at? Are spaces counted as characters? I like the way numbers are treated, I've worked at places where 1st Issue Special would be filed under "F" for First, etc. I know that I can organize my comics however I want but since I mostly use this site for selling I would like to keep my inventory as easy to access as possible. What I have been doing is alphabetizing without regard to spaces or punctuation marks. To be clear, I am not criticizing, just looking for guidance. Thanks! Howie Check out Hall of Heroes for hard to find Gold & Silver Age comics! Marvel! DC! Gold Key/Whitman! ACG! Dell! Archie! I also have a diverse selection of Independent and Underground books for sale - with more on the way!

Thanks! Howie Personally I would prefer if all punctuation and spacing were ignored, however that's not how CCL does it. A space counts as a character and it precedes the letter "A". I think that pretty much covers all your examples. Star space Wars comes before Starblast because a space comes before a "B". G.I. Joe VS... comes before G.I. Joe: A... because a "space" comes before a ":".

Exactly.
The CCL database organizes everything exactly.
G.I. Joe comes before Galactic Guardians, because it's "G" before "Ga."
Star Wars comes before Starblast, because STAR is a shorter word than STARBLAST.
Periods in titles breaks the word up. G.I. Joe before Galactic.
R.E.B.E.L.S. and S.W.O.R.D and T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents are more examples of this.
After that, you'll see:
Avengers (1963) Avengers/JLA Avengers: The Children's Crusade
So, no punctuation, followed by a slash, followed by a colon. Oh, and ampersands (&) go before everything.
This is really just how a typical computer organizational spread works. Type the three titles into an Excel spreadsheet and order it to alphabetize it, and it'll do the same thing.

I don't use Excel so I'm not familiar with that. Does the period count as a space? Check out Hall of Heroes for hard to find Gold & Silver Age comics! Marvel! DC! Gold Key/Whitman! ACG! Dell! Archie! It's not specific to Excel, it's Windows (and all modern computer operating systems) in general. Period counts as a period. It doesn't matter if it's 50 Cents or 50 Dollars - if you list it as NM it better be NM.Xylob's Most Wanted: G.I.Joe Special Missions TPB 2 Tales from the Transformers Beast Wars: Critical Mass Transformers: Timelines #3 - either cover, no preference. Problems with CCL? 615-264-4747 Offices are open M-F 8am-5pm Central Time. You can also e-mail the Chief Brand Officer directly to try to resolve questions/stuff at steve@golocomedia.com for help with password resets, general customer service questions, store order resolution, credit card store updating, questions about comic books and CCL, etc...
