i'm on the cusp of a huge undertaking, changing the face of my collection. to put it simply, i'm tired of the exhaustive maintenance of a 10,000 single issue collection and i've decided to convert everything to hardcover or trade paperback; in the case of single issues / storylines that haven't been collected, i'll look into binding... but 90% of my single issues must go.

my question: outside of the current resources (wiki / amazon / google), i'm looking for a way to find out if specific issues / storylines have been collected in TPB or hardcover.

any suggestions?

If I'd like to collect TPB and hardcover, I'd use Amazon for sure. Just because I'm in Canada and their shipping costs aren't exagerated.

However, here in Chicoutimi (140k people town in Quebec), we have no LCS. The only comics supply we can get is at HMV (don't know if you have those stores in the US). There is lots of comics TPB and Hardcovers. Too bad I want to collect single issue comics Sad

If you look on the website here, we've been trying to link trades to their titles via the Related Title section of the Title page. Check that out for some of the bigger books.

And only because they have a vastly superior tracking of this... comicbookdb.com actually notes where just about every issue is reprinted in each issue's bio.

Dc put out a free graphic novel/tpb reading chronology, I think it hit stores today...it may not help, but thought it kind of coincidental that it came out today and u asked this question today...single issues are better though, IMO, lol..

that is kinda' coincidental. and it might help, but i may not need it, as info on the Marvel & DC collections will obviously be the most available.

'better' is relative. i turn 44 this year, and i've been collecting for as long as i remember, regularly for around 26 years. this wasn't an easy decision by a long shot.
however, between boxes (15 long and 40 short) & bags-n-boards & constantly organizing / re-organizing & moving & house on the market & storage space in the new house & what an ordeal it was to pull and re-read any specific run... well, my focus just naturally shifted from new single issues on a monthly basis to the CONTENT of those issues. to me, that is now what's important.

i'll still pre-order and read the handful of titles that i just need to, and i'll definitely try new & appealing titles to see if it's worth purchasing the collection later, but i'll let those single issues go when the collected format is released; and being able to effortlessly pull from a bookshelf exactly what i want to read is something i'm looking forward to.

trust me, it's a numbing, surreal feeling to make a change like this to what was my lifestyle and a big part of how i defined myself, but i also sense it will be freeing at the same time.
